Looking for wheel and tire advice...check out these pics!
« on: January 26, 2012, 03:26:12 PM »
Hi All,

I have a 1975 CB750 (bike with aluminum tank pictured below) and I'm looking to change up the tire/wheel configuration to give the bike a more stretched, more agressive stance.  8) I'm currently running a 100/90-19 in front on the stock 19" rim, and a 130/90 in the rear on a 3" wide by 16" drop center rim (Avon Venom X tires on both).

I think the 19" front wheel and tire combo looks good, but I'd like to switch up the rear and I'm not really sure what size to go with. I love the open, wide stance and symmetrical look of the two other bikes pictured (the chopper and the orange 550) and was hoping for a little guidance in choosing a wheel tire combo for the back of my bike which might help achieve this.

Is it possible to do a 19" rim like the front, or is that overkill? Also not sure about availability? Do you think I could get this type of look with something like a 3.00"x18" rim and 130/ 70 or 80 tire? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm just starting my build , but i too am making some wheel decisions.
Like you i like the symetrical look (or at least close to it), i'd like a 19/19 or a 19/18 set up in spokes or something one piece.

google "anatomy of a cafe racer" his build has a 19/19 set up...i think he got the rear off a norton commando (not sure whch year though)...so it can be done.

Best.

It is far more common to have 18 front and rear when balancing wheel sizes, better tire selection as well, 18 rear and 19 front is stock and probably what suits best..

Raising the back or lowering the front will give you a steeper head angle, thus quicker handling.

How much? I dunno. Perhaps some who has ridden both could quantify it.
