CB 750 Handle Bars Help
« on: January 27, 2012, 10:16:56 AM »
I am a newbie to the Honda world after many years of BMW and need help!

Now I have a 1974 CB 750 which I like with one exception, the handle bars. I am not used to the high bars on the US version as I am used to the flat bars of my BMW's. I have seen pictures of European CB750's and they have a lower flat bar.

Can I fit the European bars and if so where can I get them and do I need to change the cables to fit the lower bars?

Thanks

Howdy and welcome! There's alot of gents out here with a ton of knowledge...I'm just spitting out what I've learned from reading around here. For bars think they were lower in europe and Japan. I got a set of superbike bars, suits me better. Most you have to cut the holes for the wiring, etc. Got mine from Z1 for 15bucks, link below. Don't think you need to worry about shortening your wires, maybe just the brakehose I'm not sure about, if so there's a gent who does sweet stainless lines, which I have...but my bikes down to a frame rt now:)

To make the holes in the bars, use three note cards.  Tape them around the bar ends and in the center.  Mark the top so you have an idea of the top center.  You can punch, cut or mark the holes, move them to the new bars and mark and drill and/or grind out the holes.  Camfer the edges so you do not cut the wires.  You might use a blow dryer to soften the tubing a bit when you pull the wires through.  I oblonged the holes for the pin on each controller.  It allowed me to rotate the controllers a bit so I can even them out.  Do not use the controller to pull the wires out of the old bar if you don't have to, unless you want to fix it later. All of the extra wire I stuffed in the headlight.  The end on the MC might hit the tach or come real close.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

"Superbike" bars here too. You may be able to use existing cables by rerouting.

Go to Cycle Exchange and order their Superbike bars. They are between the stock bars and the clip ons. They only have about a 2.5 inch rise.
Moderate bars.
