Engine side fittings for A/N hoses?

I tried the search, but the few threads dealing with oil hoses did not answer my question. When plumbing a cooler with braided steel A/N lines, ala CR750, what solution is there for the fittings on the engine? Mill the end of the Honda fittings for A/N fittings? Or does someone know a better way?

We used to weld AN fittings on to the stock fitting with the rubber part and ferrule cut off.
 I bet on the lathe I could build a fixture to actually thread them and cut the tapered seat on them.

Tap the cases with 3/8 NPT tap, then use the Russell 90 deg, npt to -8 AN swivel fittings.  http://www.jegs.com/i/Russell/799/612100/10002/-1  It can be done with the motor in the frame, thought you'll want to drop the sump and oil pump to make sure you're not leaving metal in the engine.

You know, I was wondering about that, I just hadn't gotten around to taking measurements with my verniers. Another thought I had was using tube adaptors on the Honda barb ends, but have yet to take apart a stock hose to see what the barb end looks like. I will definitely go the tapping route though.

I would rather not tap the cases, unless they were already damaged and fixed , Ie chain hole..
 just thinking what if youy wanted to go back to stock one day..

It'll still accept an O-ring and a stock fitting.  It doesn't really cut threads until you get in there a bit, where the orifice decreases in diameter.

If you look at Dr.D's pic, you will see that the o-ring seats are not touched at all. I do believe this is the route I shall go!
