So I have to be honest and say that my K6 isn't the only project I've been working on. My grandma died a couple years ago and one of the things I inherited was her old hamilton beach stand mixer. It is a model G which I gather was produced from 1948 till the mid 50's so this was likely a wedding present. My dad has fond memories of watching my grandma use this thing at least once a week, and using it hard. Like my K6, this will mostly be a thorough cleanup. It still works but could benefit from a complete rebuild. Although it was serviced (periodically oiled) I don't think it has ever been apart since it left the factory.

Every nook and cranny was full of 60+ years worth of batters and whatnot.

60 year old grease. The manual says to use "food safe" grease, whatever that is

After I cleaned the front up I compared the front to the rear of the body and there was quite a color difference. (not sure if it comes through in the pic)

Yummy carbon dust and dirt

They sure don't build them like this anymore. All that hard use and no visible wear or scoring on the shafts. Virtually everything is metal. I'm amazed they don't go for more money on ebay. Not only is it retro, but with a little work this will be good as new and way more reliable than anything you can buy today.

Looking inside the belly of the beast

I might be able to get it all put back together this weekend. The plate that the bowls sit on needs paint and the stand needs to be cleaned. Can't wait to see it in use again.
