changing rims from a 76cb500t onto a 74 cb550
« on: January 29, 2012, 12:04:24 PM »
the rear sprocket is smaller will i or should i change the front to the engine. the reason for this is the 500t rims are very very nice better than my 550 the bike doesn't get ridden much and when it does it's just in town no highway use what are the troubles i will run into i really want to use these these rims they are nice my old ones have nasty spokes on them that wont clean up. I'm doing some sprucing up on the old gal. she really derserves this she has been very faithful and good to me,so i'm giving her a little makeover.

Use your stock hub and relace the rim.............

Be sure the sprockets are in alignment..........If they have the same bolt pattern, then switch the rear sprockets.  If you make no changes, the bike will have less power in lower gears on the street, but will go faster (maybe) in each gear. If the sprockets do not align, the chain and sprockets will wear and possibly rub on the chainguard............very dangerous at speed.

the bolt pattern is smaller on the 500t the front sprocket off the 500t will fit. the 500t sprockets are just smaller than the 550. i'm going to get ready and go back out in the shop and put it all together and see if everything will line up.

If it all lines up, why don't you keep the front sprocket on the engine and put the 550 sprocket on the wheel?

the rear sprocket bolt pattern is larger than the 500 it doesn't matter anyway the the whole hub is narrower than the 550 i need a about 1/2 inch spacer to make it work.
