If it's nothing special I would just get another tank sportster tanks are fairly cheap and are not hardto come by.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

JB weld will not work with today's gas.

Get a new tank or consider using fiberglass.

It will work initially but will get gummy in short order with the ethanol laced fuel. It is another one of the unfortunate side effects of the ethanol gas. I have found that the sealant brand SEAL ALL seems to be ethanol resistant, used it on a repair for a friends kz550. A couple months later it is still good. Maybe use it as a temporary fix?

As said before, sportster tanks are pretty cheap tho

Not sure about today.. But before GE. And maybe only General Electric.. Silicone would hold on a gas leak. I know most other brands would not.
In fact at least once, i convinced a non believer by filling a coke can 1/2 full of gas, slanting it, poking a hole in it with an awl, the putting silicone over the hole, then setting it upright.. And it HELD.. No leak..

OH ya GO PATRIOTS

I'm glad that's the game tonight. I'm from New England but live in Ga. Should be a good game but I am a Pats fan first.

I have used JB weld on a car gas tank.  I used it for several months until I could change the tank.
I also had a snowmobile that the float post had been repaired with JB weld.  It lasted over a year until it started to soften.

We always have ethanol in our gas in the winter time, I'm not sure how much.
