Machine Bent Yoshimura Exhaust?
« on: January 20, 2012, 04:07:17 AM »
Another member pointed it out in the ebay/craigslist section.  It wasn't advertised as Yoshi, but it sure looks like it to me.  Anybody else recognize this?  I thought it was worth a chance at $125 shipped   8)

I don't have both to compare, but this looks like a Kerker header to me.

I dont think its a Yoshi....they exit the collecter at a slight angle, most pipes are bunched closer together than Yoshi where they meet the collecter...

ALSO the collecter on Yoshi tends to be near the ceter of the engine..

Greggo, can you post a side profile pic?  The primary bends will be a dead giveaway on whether or not it is a yoshi.

Camelman, that last pic is the best I've got until it's delivered in a few days.  He shipped it out the next day, so it's a good seller at the least.  I'll take more pics when it's in my hands next week.

736, I definitely didn't think it was hand bent.  The last one of those I saw go on ebay (I think you were watching too) went for five or six hundred dollars.  I'd be happy with a machine bent pipe if it's real.  The listing said it came off a '77, so it would probably be a later piece either way.

Anybody have pics of real machine bent Yoshimura pipes?

I HAVE SEVERAL IN MY SHOP BUT NO CAMERA
I can tell you this the two pipes closest to motor angle out from the collecter, collecter is under middle of motor, and pipes are vbent in a single plane. That means if you cut off the pipe at the weld, and laid it on a table with the head portion hanging off the edge, the pipe would lay flat... not like yours..

I'm with Frank, its not a Yoshi, as he said, the collector should be under the middle of the engine and central to the headers, not tilted off to the right. On the Yoshi, all the bends from the collector back are in the tail pipe section, no tilt either way to the collector....

Thanks retro. I do like the look of it, and to me it does kinda look like the yoshi. I think I will have to remove the exhaust spigots to fit it to my 76K. The listing said its from a 77F.

Got the exhaust in the mail very quick.  Still have no idea what it is, but it's nice and light.  No baffle, but lots of holes for attaching one, or a muffler I suppose.  Here's more pics.

I'd put on a Supertrapp, infinitely adjustable and well-made.

The outlet is 2.5", so I'd like to find an insert like I have in my Hooker 4-1 and pack/wrap it myself.  The universal piece in the Hooker is 3.5"

No need to wrap the baffle if you get the right style.
That fiberglass just blows out all over the environment.
Do you want yourself or others to breath that glass?
Point one of those glass packs outside and look at all that sparkly glass blowing out when you hit the throttle.

It totally looks like a Kerker header to me with the new pics. I would put a Supertrapp on it as well, but a baffle in that straight section could work out. I think it would cook a passengers foot though. You will need some support so it isn't hanging and bouncing on the exhaust flanges.
Kerker mufflers used rock wool packing I think, fiberglass does not last very long in a muffler baffle. They also rusted out rather quickly, so it isn't unusual to find the header with no muffler.

Like Bodi I agree it could be Kerker, different than mine though although that isn't unusual. I don't remember what the Action Fours pipe was like.
