I skimmed through your thread to try and find the answer but what is the theater your building for? Are all those bays for motorcycles? Where do you live? we need to hang out. I would have 12 projects easy if I had the space. My max is 3 bikes but i usally have 4. 2 would be very comfortable but there is always a deal to be had and money to be made.

In my mind the theater is to be a multi purpose structure. More or less a private club type atmosphere for guys that don't have a space to work on / put their machines, a place to park my machines, a place to meet generally ,and not always bikers. I usually promote music during winter months over my wife's store (A 2000 sq.ft. second floor, wide open with 12 ft. ceilings) . Music has been mainly Folk style with some big players.Even with big players,as you can imagine ,doesn't bring in the local interest or revenue that is hoped for for the amount of effort that goes into a show, even though we've been doing it for 10 years.
Did some rock and heavy metal shows, that's where the $ is at, and it generates local interest with the younger crowd that has no other activities available to them in this Farm type rural area in upstate N.Y.It's a whole different energy, not always positive but young people need to get out for more than pizza and a high school play.Any ways , the rock shows were great fun but I was afraid that we'd shake my wife's brick building to the ground , so we want to move that type of action to the theater.
But what a waste it would be just for the occasional  performances alone. Needs a theme that is unusual, I need a place to park cycles, so do other folks. Why not make it into something we haven't seen yet and do both and have events catered by local restaurants? Get everyone involved and see what it can become. Every time I go to work there I am greeted by an influx of just as exited and crazy people that think that this is a good idea.
Okay , so I don't know how good an idea it really is,but I don't know if it's just one of those things that could blossum into something that is a really good idea. Either way  it's something to do and the plan isn't written in stone so, if anyone has an idea that they think I should consider please chime in.
And I guess if it's a severe flop, I can change to a cycle shop.

Matt, Thanks for the positive feedback . And you're right, if it doesn't follow the thread exactly, some other ideas may work .

Yesterday I started putting the 550 head on a 500 tranny because it was done and just sitting around, broke a ring on the way in and didn't feel it until I decided to lap the valves. better to find out then rather then when finished.Got a little poopy and decided to break down the 550 tranny and see what's up with that. all that was required was a thorough cleaning , it all checked out. So the pistons were moved back to the 550 bottom end and the valve train was disassembled, and the valves  got lapped, the jugs are on and this time they don't feel broken. Perhaps I can get the top end on after work.
The 650 is due for an oil change, wheel bearings clutch discs and springs, and a battery. The parts are in, but I'm thinking it could use a fresh coat of paint. I picked this bike up cheap so there would be something to ride this year,it wasnt anywhere on my list of wanted machines, but I kinda like it, it's quick, handles nice, and with the different bars a comfortable  ride. The only problem is, it runs so good that I don't want to rebuild the engine while it's out for paint. Does that rub anyone else the wrong way?

Took frame to the carwash and washed the crap out of it, it's not shiny, but it really isn't bad enough to warrant a repaint.
Dried it off, cleaned the wiring harness, dropped in the rebuilt, changed over to a round headlight, dropped in the coils, and set the newly painted tank on for fun. Like the tank, may have made a color error on the motor. ;D

Matt,
The tank, swingarm, shocks, wheels, including rear disc and double disc front brakes and 38mm front end is from a Kawasaki gpz1100 that I had to take when buying a 550. If I took the time to figure out the fuel injection, that might have gone on it too. Didn't want to cross-manufacturer too much  but the the old school Kawi had too many trick items not to use.

TGIF, even took off a little early, had carbs on the mind all day,now they are cleaned and installed. Had oil on the mind too, pan screen and pan cleaned up and on. Oil filter, fresh oil.......has anyone asked what kind of oil to.....nevermind, check.
Nice new pods. Pods make me happy.
Plugs ready to go in...plugs...plugs?! What kinda place is this that leaves only 2 plugs in a ten pack? Need to get plugs. And  there is no more points or condensers. This was a shocking discovery.

All the parts came in,very happy. Had enough time to go through the brakes thoroughly, all good now. Removed the center stand because it was touching the chain, I really like center stands, too bad they are like 40lbs. (not really)  . That was happening because the swing arm is longer than stock and the rear sprocket has a few more teeth than usual .All good now
Found a seat lock from a suzuki that locks the seat in position without really ugly hardware or embarrassing zip ties.
While waiting for parts I was checking the new tubeless tires that were put on just before the flood at a local shop.Never rode them, lucky I guess, they never got the tire to sit on the wheel properly . while rolling the wheel I noticed that the tire had a 1/2" or better indent on the rim , it held air but was never set evenly on the rim. That looked like a serious injury looking to happen. A bit of soapy water and she popped right on, seems that could have been done during installation, you have to check what everyone does to your machine.
Points and condensers are in the machine and just have to time it tomorrow. Pics on the way soon. :)

I like the suzuki  seat lock , it could solve mounting problems with cafe seats, mounts anywhere flat, has remote key access for seat release

I put the key where it's easy to get at. and that helmet hook will finally be used.

I think that it looks ok

10 bucks ? I'll give them a try. Thanks

This has been a busy year, the one year flood anniversary is the 28th of this month
I have completed 9 of the 12 motorcycle rebuilds in the past year plus some properties. And it has recently come to my attention that I'm not 20 anymore and need to take a break from something so, since there is a bike for everyday and 2 on Sunday, I have decided to just do the theater for a while and pick up some machines to build when the theater is ready (or if I run out of $ first). Would have liked to get to 12 in a year, and maybe I still will, but ....for now nine.
Thank you all for your interest and input on this ongoing saga.

Only so many hours in the day to get it all done, mine have been going towards work and not the project bike.  That being said from where I sit 9 bikes back on the road is inspiring.  Your hard work and determination after Irene is impressive and whether you finish them all this year or next  I've no doubt they'll all get done.

CD,
Nice to see you back. I was wondering how you've been doing with the move and all. I figured that your machine shop buddy put you on back burner again and nothing was happening with the 550. Hope you were able to get lots of seat time on the 750 this summer, around here fall looks like it's coming fast.
I have taken some time from the bikes and have done other things but I really like to wrench and think about the next bike allot. I've been spending evenings in front of the TV with my wife who by the way told me of an auction that had a 550 up for grabs. Funny that she even mentioned it I thought , but she insisted that I should go and see it today.
Turns out it was a 73 500 , seized motor ,no tank or side covers, only 5000 miles and in other than that ,titled and in very reasonable condition.Opened the bid at $200 and there were no other takers. I snuck out to the barn for a couple hours. Feels good.

that's my little gem behind the 750 that I didn't bid on. Is that the biggest sissy bar you've ever seen?

Good to get in the shop I'm sure, I'm hoping to get their tomorrow or Tues.  I've done very little to the 550 but did get a good ride in on Labor Day, about 500mi up towards Portland ME really nice ride and the 750 is going good.  You're right on about the engine work I'm so far on the back burner I went and found a local engine shop one town over from where I moved.  Seems like a good shop and good guy, he does alot of work for short track cars that run up here on Thunder Road.  So now I'm just scrounging money to get the engine bored.  I do have the steering stem bearings and fork seals so I'm going to start putting the front end back together.  Good luck with the new purchase, hope the Theater keeps coming along for ya.
