“Brinley” has now been with us three weeks, to the day. The woman that gave her up came for a final visit Wednesday. I thought that was a TERRIBLE idea, but since she gave us a ton of stuff with the dog (and the dog was free), my wife felt it was impossible to say “NO”.

Showed up in a new, white Mercedes SUV and made all the usual teary noises. She brought more gifts and “treats”. The dog was happy to see her, and she stayed too long. When she finally headed out, I was standing in the open doors of our garage. My wife and Brinley walked her to the car. As the lady opened her car door, the dog scampered up the driveway to come and sit next to me. Watched the car leave and never budged…….

She is one fantastic beast and apparently she likes the farm as much as we do! We took her to the vet today, for a full check up. She is 100% healthy.
All is good.

She looks like a big teddy bear! :D
During the Covid nonsense (now 2+ years ago), one of our neighbors got sick (not with Covid) and went into the hospital, asked us to watch her Maltese for her. She found out she had cancer all over, never came home, died 3 days later. We had her pup until last month, it died, too. I think she missed her 'mom' the whole time. They become a part of us - or maybe it's the other way 'round?

A Shih-Tzu owns me. My wife has 2 other dogs and the 3rd one owns her.

While it's a bit sad to watch our pets age and get less mobile they still give us all they have. Simon is about 16 years old now and slowing down so what were long walks around the local ball park now are walking to a shade tree, me sitting and leaning against it, and Simon wondering about as he sniffs everything in sight. If there's no other dogs around he'll be off leash. With the warm weather i have to be careful not to fall asleep!

You bring back a lot of memories of the past, everyone a rescue or abandoned.  Enjoy these days with Simon, make the most of everyone of them.

Long winded Dog Story….

So while I was away on the “The Pick-Axe Loop” ride with my buddies, my wife was in Stratford, Ontario for her last Dragon Boat Festival Event. They did well and had a great time. She dropped the dog at my daughters town house in Toronto, and went back there Sunday. They spent time together doing open house tours in the afternoon. The plan was to stay overnight and come back to the farm Monday

Late Sunday she goes to take the dog for a short walk. They get tangled up at the top of the front steps (5) and my wife gets launched to the sidewalk below, face first…… shattered heal, cracked  cheek and shoulder, black eye, and a few cracked ribs. Rushed to St Michael’s hospital (thankfully a mile away), we are in VERY good hands. They wired the heel back together and the rest will heal itself. Checked it all today, after removing the temporary cast, and installed a fabulously light f’glass cast.

Fortunately, between her Yoga, exercise classes, daily 5-6K walks with the dog, and twice a week paddling, she is 10X fitter than most of us. Six weeks of no walking or pressure on the heel should see her back to excellent health. My racing and riding is probably over for a while!

Sorry to hear of the mishap John, speedy recovery for your wife .
I had a small dog of friend stop in front of me on steps on leash and I didn't expect it and it tripped me stepping in front of me no less. Ended up falling and dig instead of going left tried to go right and my chest and shoulder partly landed on the dog. I rotated to minimize it as much as I could. It was a pup at the time.
Not a smart dog it turns out as it has grown. It also is pretty much hated by my friend. The dog gives me wider berth as a result of that incident.
I'm not a small guy either... the ground around the steps was gravel, so I got tore up a bit from that.

Hope she's back home and moving about isn't much trouble. Being in good shape her use of crutches are likely to be not too much of an issue.

No crutches because of the shoulder! Walker and chair for a while. She’s in good spirits and I’m sure she’ll recover much faster than most.

Good luck on your wife's recovery. Being in good shape and active all the time definitely helps with a speedy recovery. I know, I've had to recover from injuries a whole bunch of times. 8)

I assume that Brinley is okay just missing mama. ;D

Kelly….. Dog is fine. She likes being at my daughter’s with her big black and white cat! My daughter “works from home” and is a 20 minute walk from the hospital. I’m staying there, so all good!

Meet Teddy. Eight years old Labrador from local pound.  They called him Lab, but he is mostly hound by looks andbehavior.

Never met a lab that would ignore tennis balls like Teddy.

When they just can't walk very far anymore, and you still enjoy a walk with them. Simon is about 17 years old now, a rescue. He tries, it's tough on him but he still likes to get out of the house.
