Looks like it's time for my little Simon to cross the Rainbow Bridge. :'(  Cliff.

Cliff….. That sucks. Sorry to hear your news. I guess it’s part of finding these darn pets so special.

I am so sorry to hear that.  As someone who has been through it too many times in the past, my heart goes out to you and your family.

Gorge and John, thanks for your comments. However, after a long chat with his vet and going through a questionnaire he felt Simon still had a good quality of life even though he's an older dog. We added some meds to his diet. I guess I panicked about this because we're off to Japan in January and his sitter was reluctant to look after him. After she talked to me about the vet's report and having Simon groomed she has changed her mind and will care for him for 2 weeks in January. So a longer life for Simon. It was heartbreaking to consider putting him down. Cliff.

Cliff….. That’s good news! That’s always the tough decision. Sometimes what we want isn’t always best for our pets. Sounds like your Vet has it down to a science. Great!

Turned my K6 around on the lift table today. Not easy on my own. My helper was useless and appeared unimpressed!

Simon has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on April 1'st. He died in my arms. So, we said no more dogs.

Well, that lasted about a week. I found this little one one a local rescue. We bring her home on Tuesday if the meet and greet goes well. We like small dogs.

We lost our senior Pug, Sherman a few weeks ago. He was around 16. We had just gotten a new puppy about a week before he passed because we knew he was near the end and wanted our younger dog, Hildy, who just turned 2 to have a companion.

It was very sad to lose him, he was a wonderful dog, but it was his time and he passed at home in my girlfriend's arms out in the sunshine on a nice spring day. No assistance from a vet, he just closed his eyes and crossed over.

Hildy and Sherman April 2023 and then Hildy and Peabody April 2024.

Our little Simon died in my arms on April 1'st, he had a long happy life.

I lasted a week before looking for another pup and a friend sent a link to this one at a local rescue society. Luckily she became ours last month. She's a great little dog - Missy. She's certainly full of mischief.

“Brinley” providing her usual amount of technical support. She’s been with us over a year now and has turned out to be an amazing partner. Always by my side (unless my wife is around). She does everything well, except in the pond. She swims like a stone and appears to be determined to drown!

I wish Rex would hang out in the shop with me but I think he doesn't like the smells. He'll lay on the cool cement floor when the bay doors are open. Eventually he'll see a rabbit, squirrel or one of the big pileated woodpeckers on the bird feeder and he's off and running.
He seems to have a special dislike for squirrels. He's figured out how to track them through the trees all by himself. He's the best natural squirrel dog I've ever seen. He's so territorial and protective he tries to chase off airplanes.

7 or 8 months ago he was starting to act like an old dog. So we changed his diet to Science Diet beef or chicken and barley canned food and Instinct lamb and oatmeal dry food. Now he acts like he's 4yo and not 11yo. Here's a rare shot of him hanging out in the doorway of the shop.  8)

Yes, they eventually leave us but add so much to our lives while here.  I enjoy and appreciate everyone sharing their stories and memories.  This is Mo, we got him at a Corvette car show 11.5 years ago.  The local shelter had set up a booth next to all the t-shirt and car part sellers.  They estimated him to be 5 years old when we got him.  Took him home in my 68 Corvette convertible so the wife had to hold him the entire way which formed a bond between them.  She had never had a pet her entire life and knew nothing of dogs typical habits though they are also each unique.  Man she loved that dog.  He was the happiest dog too.  Always happy.  A lady at the park once said "that dog even walks happy".  We were devastated to lose him last month.  But grateful to have had him.

Thanks Steve.  Yes, the 68 was red, loud, quick, and hot as could be in Texas.  Looking for a new toy but undecided.

New pup in the house - Missy. A rescue about 2 - 3 years old. I lasted about a week after Simon's passing and started looking for another rescue and this little one came along. At my age  I was concerned about getting another dog however she's home now.

Good on you for bringing another recuse home.  She looks like an appreciative sweetie.  Sadly currently the county and municiple shelters along with the rescue organizations in my area are just completely over run with dogs and cats needing a good home.  I waited almost six years between K9's and now with my 17 month old constant companion. I am so sorry I wasted that time.  I urge anyone who has the room for one more to think about a rescue, they will appreciate you forever.......
