New pup in the house - Missy. A rescue about 2 - 3 years old. I lasted about a week after Simon's passing and started looking for another rescue and this little one came along. At my age  I was concerned about getting another dog however she's home now.

Nice! Her luck has changed. Enjoy!

Tonight we leashed up the pups and opened the front door to go out for a walk.
Just as I opened the door and they all got out on the porch, lightning from a tiny, lonely little cloud straight up over the house shot straight down and hit the church about a block from here.
The thunder was incredible and instant, and all the dogs went back inside like a shot!
The little (11 lbs) miniature Australian Shepard from next door cleared their chainlink fence and shot into our front yard (we babysit it sometimes) where my wife nabbed him (to "rehome" him back over his fence, which has been done before...). His owners weren't home then.
Wow!

My poor little Shih-Tzu...last week we took him in for a test (biopsy) of a brown mole-looking spot on his rear left quarter. They called back and said they needed to remove it: the cells were 'disorganized' like cancer. So, we took him in this AM for removal of the mole.

When we picked him up I was hit with a huge bill that shocked me: a couple minutes later we saw why. They had chased the 'mole' tissue across 6" of his side. He has a long incision and a whole lot of stitches, our poor little puppy boy! :(

Today we gave him one of their 'pain pills'. He's utterly energized (cocaine?) and running around like a puppy - I hope he doesn't hurt himself! It's supposed to wear off in about 3 more hours, so we'll see how he handles it then. He's just a lap-sized little thing. :)

The vet hospital found him so charming (before the surgery) that they took him to their photo booth to add to their in-the-hospital collection of dog faces that hangs on the door leading to the treatment rooms. Their whole staff fell for him, too: they all came out to say goodbye when we picked him up. In the past all we got from this place was the attendant bringing out our pet. :D

After too much time on the Farm, Brinley’s coat was too long and matted to deal with. We decided to “start over”…..

When I had Spriger Spaniels, they would get a close crop in the spring and summer. It saved a ton of money on vet bills. Those dogs are like a foxtail magnets!

Had to say goodbye to my little wolfhound on Sunday night, I think he had a heart attack, it was over in less than two minutes.
I miss him a lot
However I did what might turn out to be something great or really stupid....I waited a whole 2 days and adopted a lab/Dane cross ( imagine a labrador on steroids with the strength of a Dane...)
i blame Terry

Yeah, you have my sincerest sympathies, losing a pet can be incredibly emotional and stressful,  but on the other hand, that new member of your family looks like a really great addition,  congratulations...

thanks all, i'm discovering she has labrador levels of enthusiasm for everything, every time she comes inside is like the first time ever, every snack is the best ever
and some idiot taught her to offer her paw for a shake but she launches the paw at full force every time, that's going to have to be untaught
i blame Terry

We had to have one of our old house cats put down this past Saturday.  Newman was abandoned under a bush in our backyard when he was just a sick blue eyed skinny white kitten.  He was always on the feral side, the only person who could pick him up was my Grand-daughter.  Everything was on his terms, he would spend hours sitting on the arm of my recliner, but not once in 11 years did he ever even try to lay in my lap.  The funny thing was when we first carried him to the vet after finding him, the Doctor said he would never be a sociable, I still have no idea how she could determine that from a kitten that young. He spent his time laying in the sun on the back of couch and was always first in line when feeding time came.  Towards the end he suffered a lot of weight lost from dental and medical issues which were impossible to treat because of his feral nature.  His final trip to the vets office involved heavy medication in his food the night before and morning of the visit and he still ended up sitting on the top of the doorframe in the office which the kennel door came open. We just called him "White Cat" most of the time and he could care less on how he was addressed, it was always returned with an indignant stare.  We also have a ginger cat, Marvin, about the same age, which again showed up in my garage one day about nine years ago. He came up the street, turned into my driveway and came in and sat down and began meowing, which he has not stopped doing to this day.  He is the complete opposite of Newman and will be in your lap from dawn to dust.  Both him and Byrdie the dog have been off kilter since the lost. At times it was an all out mad dash through the house and you never knew who was chasing who.  I know they miss their sidekick. Newman was obnoxious, bull headed, hinky, tried to scratch me every time I put food in his bowl, and on the odorous side, (I think Febe may have written the song "Smelly Cat" with him in mind,) but damn the Wife and I miss him.  At least he had almost 12 good years of a full belly, warm and cool place to sleep, and a couple of crazy old people who tried to make him happy and loved him despite his nature.  RIP Newman...Miss you White Cat.....
