CB750 K2-Testing the kill switch- Followup question
« on: February 04, 2012, 01:52:04 PM »
Hello: I have all new components on a CB750K2. How would one test the kill switch?

PS: Have a SUPER day!   ;)

Put your meter on the Blk/white wire at the coils. Turn on key to run and kill sw. to run. You should have battery voltage. Now leave key on and change kill sw. you should lose power to the coils. That is all the kill sw. does kill power to coil.

OK so when I check the B/W wire by itself, it goes from 12.25V to 0V. Kill switch works.

When I plug in the B/W from each coil into the dual female lead from the harness, then shove the meter probe in and check the KS, I get 12.25V on; 9.5+/- off.  Is this right or is something else wrong. From where would the coils be getting this residual voltage?

When I unplug the power to the ignition (old Prestolite of suspicious value) the KS performs correctly. Is this confirming the the Prestolite is cooked?

Is it feeding voltage back into the coils thru the blue and Yellow ig wires?

On the stock point ign. the coils are fed 12v+ thru' the killswitch ( Black to Black/White ) . So k/s 'off' = no power to the ign. ( coils or points ). Your Prestolite ign. may have a separate 12v+ feed to it ( bet it does ) and may still show voltage to it even with the k/s 'off'....... might have to do some research as to how the k/s would wire with that unit, would be different than stock set-up IMO.
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Yes it does. When I unplug the power to the ignition, the KS works on/off.  I know the KS worked with this setup years ago. I had just never put a meter on it.

I'm testing the KS now as it is a new switchgear and I want to be sure I can kill the motor if need be if I ever get to start it.
