Lucky I ordered a cutter guide that was sized to the valve stems and could not feel any play in them wiped light oil on the guides so as not to make a big oil film. Then cut had a buddy who's a mech look at the cuts got his ok. Thanks for the help and I enjoy your posts.

I've seen some creative improvisation on the project board over the 18 months or so I have been coming here (the reverse port project being at the top I think) and this one ranks right up there. Love the front turn signals, tail light and headlight ears.

I'm really enjoying this one.

I just remembered where I had written down my previous user name from 8 years ago! And low and behold I was XC204 going to recover my password today and continue on with this post. When I stopped posting life had gotten in the way ,grandkids ,work, health problems baseball games etc. I'm about 5 or 6 months from retiring so the past year has been refubing parts ,electrical work done, fork and controls done seat done.   Sent the frame to a local powder coating place last Friday because my bike oven is too small.
Oh Steve-O the clutch rod was perfect.

Went out to the garage to do some power coating this morning turned on the furnace cold air crap the pc oven will keep it warm so I turned on the air compressor it wouldn't get any pressure on I'm just not going to let this stop me I got my small pancake compressor and carried on and did the pc work. When that was finished I tore into the big air compressor. Shot reed valves and  soft oilless piston ring thingy. Ha I had both parts and a new cylinder tube it pays to save parts I bought them 15 years ago! When it failed the first time. Furnace had a broken side on flame sensor funny material side didn't want to stay soldered. Also made a rear wheel bearing retainer tool and a valve stem fishing tool for if I ever get tires.

 Good to see you back.
 8 year project wow.
I couldn't live through a project that long with the bike always whining in the background all day long ,  the moaning late into the evening, and the desperate cries for attention in the middle of the night.   Why, it could drive a man mad.

Looks like you're off to a good start ,once again.
I was looking at the fork pic, how did you attach the gaitors without headlight ears  so the don't drop down? looks clean.
and do I see gray side cases and filter housing  on the work bench?

Hmm it's been so long since I pulled it apart that I didn't even realize how th upper part attached . You d see white aluminum pc parts  everything I pulled off got sand blasted cleaned and powder coated. In the last few days I broke down the wheels ,checked the spokes I got 8years ago to see if they t correct...yes! Will pc the hubs black this weekend and sand blast the rims.

A few things done this morning. Hubs ready to powder coat , swing arm and shocks mounted. Should I coat the inside of the drive side where the isolators live (rather not mask it)

I find that to be an interesting question ,it almost sounds like it should be a trick question doesn't it? I only polish and paint so I am not familiar with the powdercoat finishes. I know that some folks  have had issue with electric ground and have to sand back the frame on the top rear engine mount and the ground up by the coils . I've also heard complaints that sometimes it has been put on too thick and offers clearance issues. Perhaps there could be clearance issues when you plug in the sprocket mount, or, perhaps the powder coat on the inside would offer less friction for the isolators and make them wear faster or jerk if they slip when you put it in gear or every time you shift... maybe it won't make any difference, I really don't know but I would also be interested in the answer to that question.

I think I'll try and mask it around the bearing housing and inside the rim edge enough to keep it from getting pc inside.brake side same thing.

Powdered the hubs and managed to mask them sufficiently to keep the powder out of the inside. Welded up some of the battery box. I also smucked up one of the all balls front bearings going to use a real press to do them when I get the replacement.

Got the rims powder coated today primer and color. Now I just got to get up the guts to lace up the wheels. I took good photos and read the threads here  it looks like it might be easier than bicycle wheels which can move pretty easy and mess me up.

Today so far I got this done. I don't have a spoke tork wrench so unsure what to do next once it's trued.

Got the rear wheel laced an trued and I mounted the front tire mounted built a quick mounting jig out of scrap plywood and 2x4 chunks the front Axel but is inside the plastic center thing so I can secure the rim while struggling with the tire. When I watched YouTube videos of tire mounting they were always struggling to hold  to it so I built this jig.

Had a little time yesterday evening to do something with the bike so I decided to fit the coils that I got about 8 years ago. The have  wire connection clamps for the plug wires so they can be replaced. Well the wouldn't fit right with the stock mounting brackets so I modified the brackets so the coils would mount from the side of the brackets instead of the top. Yea success! Looked good fit under the tank what more could I ask! Well I decided to measure the coil resistance ......1.5 ohms crap they were supposed to be electrically the same and 1.5 seemed low dang yep wrong. on the plus side I would have had to modify the brackets any way for them to fit under the cb650 tank so all is not in vain. Will be ordering new coils.

A question for Honda Man  I did the above and now before I send off for new coils can I use these with resistors ? I don't know the inductance of the primary (can measure at work) nor the minimum time constant needed for max rpm got to look at lobes on rotor ad see how many openings \ revolution  4 or 2 ? Or do I need to bite the bullet and buy new coils I can get high watt resistors no problem.
Thanks in advance
Gary

Coil measures 9.24 mh 1.9 ohms  if i added a 2.5 ohm resistor T=L/R time constant is .002 sec 5 tc's = .o1 sec . It looks like the if you figure 9000 rpm = 150 revs / sec or .006 sec per points opening . this seems to be about twice as fast as 5 time constants for coil up to full voltage this is without figuring the dwell (points open?) time, so I'm assuming Iwill be buying new coils? If I only need 2 to 3 Time constants 85% or 95% maybe ill be ok i dont know if these are correct assumptions though.

Got a few things done during the corvid-19 stand down got the new coils from 4 into 1 measured and mounted my modified mounts worked out. Checked out all electrics except charging system and measured current draw in all situations with the all led lighting not including coil current.
Halo & tail light =.4 amp
Halo,low beam & tail = 1.86 amps
Halo, hi beam (includes low beam) & tail = 3.37 amps
Turn signal & tail = .6 to .2 amp.  (Because of the way the led headlight works I had t build a circuit to cut out halo when the signals were on so the turn signal part of the halo would flash)
Halo,brake & tail = .47 amps
Starter solenoid = 4.3 amps

Got the front wheel on and had a scare disk rubbed on the left fork! I thought that I had laced an offset into the wheel but I had I put the axel in from the wrong side . Hope you guys stay well out there and be safe
Gary
