Madmt - please clarify the date within the circle.
For instance, the date in the NM circle is 4/4. Is that the tenative handoff date to NM?

Madmt - please clarify the date within the circle.
For instance, the date in the NM circle is 4/4. Is that the tenative handoff date to NM?

The dates are loose dates, based on one week per 350 mile diameter circle (24 circles) and three "spare" weeks (for 26 weeks since the first date is the zero point start) and are target dates for reaching a particular "zone". I had tried to allot one of the "spare" weeks between Team West and Team Southwest to help overcome the vast stretches with widely spaced riders but just realized ( :o ) that I was not accounting for the first date as the "zero point". Looks like I need to shift all of the dates back one week, adding one more week to the finish for that to happen. With the loose dates shown, planning should include the dates on either side of the targeted area to get an idea of where you would want to reach, and when. If we lose time in one area we might be able to pick it up in another, knowing that could put more pressure on those further down the line. On the other hand, If we are able to beat a date in one "zone" it then affords riders some extra time to reach the next target date at a more relaxed pace. I hope the visual graphic of putting the dates on the map will help give us all a grasp of how far we have to go and how the time frame drives the forward progression.

And what an accomplishment the first relay was! (and still is)  8)

I'll repost once I've updated the map dates. I also plan to put the dates down in a simpler format (instead of just on the map) as we move forward.  ;)

I just got off the phone with Madmtnmotors. He's got a voice that doesn't give it away, but I can tell he's excited- you can actually hear the twinkle in his eye.
He's gonna affix the piston in the Lizards official grip and send him west with all the accoutrements of relay travel, and we can go from there. There's been some debate re: departure date, and a perceived lack of SoCal riders, but I call BS on that- We can do it!
I'm self-unemployed as of late and it's a blessing i disguise. It would be sweet if the kick off coincided with a moto event(researching that as we speak) in mid-late March, and meshed well with a SoCal/AZ handoff. So, what says y'all?

Well, as far as a perceived lack of SoCal riders, as well as AZ riders: It's about 325 miles from San Fran to Santa Barbara, 220 miles from Santa Barbara to San Diego, and 350 miles from San Diego to Phoenix. From Phoenix to Lubbock TX is another 740 miles. This assumes taking the dreaded freeways, rather than the more scenic routes. So far, we only have 2 SoCal riders, and 1, maybe 2 AZ riders.

I hope for more riders to sign up, but worst case scenario, UPS does a direct route from Phoenix to Lubbock.

I am waiting to hear what the ride dates are for Northern to Central California (Santa Barbara or thereabouts).  I cannot do a ride on 3/23 and 3/24 but am available after that on 3/25 (I will be in Palmdale/Lancaster area on 3/25) or anytime after those dates.  So I am in if it works with the time that I have for the Southern California contingency.

Relay Map reflects updated (proposed) dates:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=101662.0

Turns out some of the dates were out of sequence, and I fixed the fact that ALL of the dates fell on WEDNESDAY...

All of the dates on the map now fall on Saturday, which meant backing up the dates by four days. Look it over and let me know what you think!

Hey Mooshie,
    What about the earlier dates?

I am waiting to hear what the ride dates are for Northern to Central California (Santa Barbara or thereabouts).  I cannot do a ride on 3/23 and 3/24 but am available after that on 3/25 (I will be in Palmdale/Lancaster area on 3/25) or anytime after those dates.  So I am in if it works with the time that I have for the Southern California contingency.
Mooshie, will you be riding your bike to Palmdale/Lancaster? If so, maybe the NorCal/CentralCal riders could ride along, or maybe meet up with you there, as well as any other SoCal riders? From there, you could head east, and meet up somewhere in the desert with the AZ riders.

No need to rush the start dates, as the weather may still be a concern. If we can get GZ to Phoenix by, say 3-28, he can be in Lubbock in 2-3 days, one way or the other.

Scottly,
Just puttin dates out there for discussion. The dates are "loose" target dates and I was pretty confident that the spacing was such that if one date slips it can be made up in another area. Believe me, I know that being on the front end can be a little unsettling... we were still voting on a baton at this time last year!

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=83223.0

We can still push some dates around if necessary. Let's see what kind of route and schedule the California riders come up with and go from there. I figure the schedule will likely get some fine tuning as we move forward, and the proposed dates are a "wish list" until local plans start to gel. I certainly don't expect anyone to feel forced to ride in harsh or inclement weather, that is not my intent and would urge all riders to err on the side of caution. The earlier dates merely provide the ability to take advantage of nicer weather should an unseasonably nice weekend present itself early. If we schedule late, and miss an early, fair weather opportunity, we might be saying "Man I wish we started just a little sooner!".

Keep the discussion going, we'll get this figured out yet!
TAMTF...

Since Mooshie has a predetermined schedule, it might work to plan around that. Three days should allow plenty of time to get from Palmdale to Phoenix, even taking some scenic desert routes.
