APE is local for me so anytime works.  I don't know who's riding in vs who will already be in the area.  I'm pretty open to whatever the group decides.

Can I get a head count of who is coming so I can let the track know what to expect?

Pat
I plan to be there, so count me in.

Nah. wasn't picking on the 750. it's the setting   8)
I thought that was at dig at last years "performance". At least I shouldn't need a new chain this time around, some slime might not be a bad idea though.

The ride from Rosamond to Joshua Tree will take 2:52 hours (147 miles), according to google maps. Add time for photo ops, and passing the "baton" to other bikes, so figure 4 hours. I would plan on leaving APE around 1:00...

Just letting you all know rain is expected in Lancaster/Palmdale on Sunday (but not in JT).  And on Monday rain in JT but not for those riding back to Central/So/Northern Cal.  At least that is the forecast as of today

I know...wind, rain, what the hell.  ::) I mean heck!  Honestly, last year buffeted by wind gusts and now this year rain...what will be up for 2013 hail?  Seems like rain/thunderstorms in Lancaster on Sunday in the afternoon.  But all seems well in JT on Sunday and now just cloudy on Monday for the ride out.  So perhaps hanging around Lancaster may not be wise.  That's the weather report for today... :-*

Is there a 2012 relay patch? My old one is getting lonely.

I'm willing to camp in JT. I didn't get a chance to camp there on my last trip so it's definitely a must for me.
What time do you think you'll arrive in Palmdale?

It will take make about 2hrs to get there. What time are people meeting there?

The weather report for Lancaster Sunday making me iffy. I was going to ride to JT with the group and then back to San Diego Sun. night, but rain is forecast here as well.

I think for 2013, the Mayan calendar is calling for the magnetic poles of the earth to flip, so expect widely scattered cosmic particle storms ;)

But at least packing a compass will not make sense, so you can leave that at home!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Meeting in Palmdale or JT?  I have no idea on either count.  Tentative plan is to meet at APE on 3/25 (but no time confirmed yet).  I am thinking Geminimotors will stop by my hotel and we will ride to APE together (but again no time confirmed on that one).  I just want to stay ahead of the rain if at all possible (never ridden in it but no time like the "World Tours" to learn (seems I learned how to navigate wind last year) so this year it is rain and apparently in 2013 cosmic particle storms :o....yippie.

Doesn't look like I'm going to be of much help this time around, but I will be in J-Tree camping and rockclimbing all weekend.  We're heading out there tomorrow morning, returning Sunday afternoon.  Probably be at Hidden Valley or Belle campground.

God news and bad news.
« Reply #265 on: March 22, 2012, 06:42:52 PM »
The good first: My valve cover gasket was leaking, and it was time to adjust the valves. Sooo I installed the 650 cam. Really woke the Hobart up, especially mid-high range.
The bad: Being self employed is a blessing and a curse. It's getting close to the end of the month, and the owner of my current project has imploded, and reveling in financial retardation.
I has to cut it short- like in Monterey, and am hoping Fatmatt and Grumpy can carry the rubber herpetological torch from there. Matt- give me a call.
I know this thing is greater than the sum of its parts, and I know the show will go on. Cheers, y'all.

I haven't been able to fix my gremlin yet. Bike goes completely dark when I try to use the starter, then comes back on after a few seconds. Picking up a new battery tomorrow evening in last ditch attempt to reconcile it.

I'll either be on the road to Palmdale Saturday morning, or crying a river on my way to my buddy's shop. If it's the former, I have FatMatt's cell #.  If it's the latter, have a great ride y'all.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

My schedule so far -
3/23 - meet Gemini in Pacifica at 9am - then meet Grumpy in Davenport at 10:30
Motel up in Morro Bay that evening. I've ditched the camping idea because of weather and I'm a big wuss and stuff.
3/24 - Ride solo to Rosamond and get a room at the Devonshire to await Scondons' arrival.
3/25 - Meet Mooshie and whoever else at A.P.E. What time? 10am? Tour A.P.E., ride the track. Meet Scottly and whoever else in Joshua Tree at 5.

This sound about right?

The main concern in the rain is traction, or lack thereof. ("hard enough to gain, sufficient traction in the rain.." Name the artist.. ;D)
Seriously, be careful to keep the bike straight up, before applying hard braking, especially with the front. If you lock the front wheel with the bike at any kind of lean, you will go down.
