Hi,

As a proud owner of one of the few 1978 CB750A Hondamatics that made it to Europe I'm desperately seeking for a kick start lever. Does anyone has a suggestion where to find one? I check Ebay on a daily basis but so far no luck....

Do you have any information the Hondamatics that was sold in Europe in the late 70:s?
In Finland we have about 15 CB750A imported from USA/Canada since late 90:s.

I never knew there we that much CB750A in Finland! Over here in Holland I only know two, but there must be more. I'll try to find out.

Along this specific topic...as a new owner I am faced with the same task of locating a kick start for my 'matic. Is the 750A's kick start designed different than the kick start for the standard models of similar age?

Yeah, it's way different (part #2). It lives under the seat where you can't see it, plugged onto part #3 and held down by part #6 ('77 and '78 only). It's a huge PIA to install and use, and you probably wouldn't get the bike running with it anyway. So if your goal is completeness, keep looking. But if you want it for emergency use, a better idea would be to keep the bike tuned, and make sure you have a good battery and charging system.

Now that brings up a good question. How many people have ever started their Hondamatic using the kicker? The owners manual cautions that when using the kicker, be sure to keep the seat open so after the bike starts, you won't have to shut the engine back off to open the seat to store the kicker.

Thanks for the reply and the use of technical drawings. For the purpose of discussion and worst case scenario preparations, is the physical dimension of part #2 ( kick start arm ) the same or different dimensions than a standard CB? Or this is a backward way of asking if in a necessary scenario would a standard CB kick start be unable to work in the stead of a proper 750A kick start? I would assume it would due to the differences in the layout of surrounding body and engine components but its worth asking.

As Stu said, the A kicker is completely different than all other kickers. A regular kicker is made to slip on to a splined shaft and then a pinch bolt is used to secure it there permanently and the pedal folds in, the A kicker is one piece made to be stored under the seat when not being used. If you have access to a machine shop, you may be able to have a regular kicker machined to fit the A start shaft, but you also have to eliminate the fold up feature because its located on the opposite side and would fold up when you tried to use it. It can be done..........

Here's a pic of the kicker in storage under the seat. I found this one in a bone yard after using a Chicago Trunk Key (slide hammer) to remove the lock cylinder so I could get the seat off. Finding a wreck with the seat locked like I did may be your only hope of finding one of these.

Go over to Hondachopper.com and ask over there on the "wanted" section......they chop 'em, so might have one laying around. I might have 2 in my attic......but can't get up there till Saturday to look.

I took the day off today and did one of my favorite things - spent some time surfing around in the bone yard. Found 6 Automatics. One '77 and 5 '76 models, but not one had the kicker still there. I looked on the ground all around the bikes, too. Sorry. I'm thinking a lot of owners must have tossed those things away back in the day. Funny - most of the early GL1000 Wings in this yard still have their kickers on board.

Someone asked if anyone had ever used a Kicker to get the Hondamatic running. I was out for a ride a few years ago and the battery died at a lunch stop. I used the kicker and it actually worked just fine, however everything else on my bike was in very good shape and ran quite well. It kicked right over and I unplugged the kicker and put it away, never to be used again.

I ONLY kick my matic with a Harley/Honda hybrid kicker.....not hard, but you have to kick fast.

I have been having some good luck with this place here in the states http://www.westernhillshondayamaha.com/ They show it in there catalog as 28240-393-770 and it has a price of $83.04. You might try them. They just had a rear grab rail for my 77 A and those seem to be hard to find also.
