Scheming my paint Scheme
« on: May 07, 2005, 05:00:58 PM »
Ok, you can see by my Forum pic that I have a vintage Tracy Racing Body that I'm going to mount on my CB750 "Project X".  I'd like to paint it an original color scheme.

My question to this esteemed group: Is there a site or other resource that not only lists the available colors for these old CB's but also displays a paint chip or swatch?  I have worn out one keyboard in a fruitless Internet search.  A guy emailed me a jpeg of the paint chip chart, but it was pretty crappy and he has not returned any subsequent correspondence.

I don't mind purchasing one if I could find it, however I just need it as a reference.

Thanks,

-Bobby

So, you're looking for paint schemes for the body kit, or the original paint schemes of the CB750's?

I'm looking for examples of all those great '70's Honda paint schemes.  You know, like Surise Orange, Candy Gold, Boss Maroon, Creature Green...

Ah, ok, you're looking for good examples of the colors.

One thing to do is search eBay for NOS body parts.  They appear on occassion and normally have good pics.

However, you won't be able to color match off a picture from the internet.  You might consider contacting a painter who has experience with these old Hondas.

If you go to www.reproductiondecals.com (who make decals for many old bikes including our SOHC4's) they have a recommended painter.  The painter's shop is www.bkcustomcoatings.com - you'll find pics of his work at the Reproduction Decals site under More Info > BK Custom Coatings.  www.reproductiondecals.com/default_frameset.html?moreinfo_bk_custom.html~main

Also check out StephenB's (SOHC4 member) website - he used BK and has excellent pics up of the work (scroll down)

So, the reason I'm telling you all about this great painter north of Toronto, Ontario isn't that I expect you to ship your body up here for paint  ;D  BK's might be able to steer you in some direction on the old 70's colors, or might be able to sell you paint or something.  I wouldn't expect him to offer up free recipes for reproducing the old paint colors, as this info would have cost him years and years of trial and error.  But, not knowing exactly what level of service you're looking for, I thought it worthwhile offering up the info.

Oh - one last thing.  I have an original CB550F Sunrise Orange flake sidecover.  It's a little dull - haven't polished it, but I'd be happy to take pics of it for you.
