connecting rod question
« on: February 03, 2012, 08:16:54 AM »
I pulled the connecting rods off the crank and numbered and bagged them, but I didn't note their orientation.  I now need to re-install them so I can plastiguage them.  If you have the upper case flipped upside down being propped up by the studs and the crank in how are the connecting rods oriented?  I noticed that the rod bearings have notches in them so, do the notches end up above the crank or below?  I think i just lost everyone didn't I?

The  bearing locators will be either front or back, not up/down.
I forget which, I'll look it up later

I always installed them with the locating key towards the exhaust (front) but I can't remember what the issue is. I just asked this question of the other HiPo guys because I'm not sure what difference it makes. Consensus is...one way or tother, just make them all the same.

You need to buy a shop manual.

The rods have a printed letter on their front side, and a weight number on their rear side.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.
