SPLITING CASES cb750
« on: February 07, 2012, 04:55:09 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has every split the cases of a 750 with the jugs and head, rockers, ect on.  I messed up the install on the kick starter and don't want to undo the entire engine just to change the lower end.  Would it be possible?

You can split the cases without touching the top end if you wish . If you need to remove the crank you need to remove the cam chain but you can leave the crank in place for what your doing .

I will be doing that this spring to fix a bad second gear on a spare engine. No sense in making more work or costing more money -----

Agree with photolar, ekpent, et al. It is very possible, with no reservations. It would be the accepted method for your repair.
I have done it to replace a second gear and shift fork.

You'll remove the engine, remove all sidecovers, remove top crankcase bolts, flip it over on your bench, remove all bottom case bolts and remove the bottom case.

Eazy peazy.   :D

I thought it was possible.  The easiest way is my favorite.  Especially since we just finished up the top end with the cam and adjusted the valves.  What a boner move on my part... learning all the time.

Thanks

wow, learn something new everyday.  I know it is possible but  did not think it was feasible because I was thinking a piston would pull out of the jugs.  If you flip it upside down, your all good...  Makes perfect sense now.

Although I hope I never need to do that, thanks fella's.

Yeah, the crank stays with the top case. The bottom case comes off clean, nothing attached except some gears, shift drum I think.

You are absolutely correct, just didn't think of it that way.  I have tore apart and build multiple engine now just always completely tear them down and rebuild so the thought of removing the bottom case never crossed my mind...
