78 CB750F KICK STARTER INSTALL
« on: February 06, 2012, 06:58:52 AM »
I don't know where to start.  The motor was disassembled and reassembled.  I thought everything was installed correctly.  When turning over the engine by had via the nut on the spark advance side the kick starter spline rotates.  It is like the kick starter isn't disengaging.  I thought the was only one way the spring on the kick starter could be installed.  Any thoughts?

You might not have hooked the spring up or it doesn't have any tension.  It does take a little finess and attention.  It is possible to get the installation wrong though.

If I did get the spring installed without tension on it my guess is it won't work properly.  I Do I have to separate the cases to look at the spring?  I didn't know if it could be installed with the cases together?  Can I separate the cases with the jugs and head on?

I have never attempted to split cases with the head on, but I don't see any reason you couldn't.

I thought all the bolts were exposed and it would be easier and I don't have to waste the head gasket and main gasket to separate the engine with them together.  I am looking at my photos and can't tell if it is was installed with tension or not.  Splitting the cases now would be a pain but it would be easier that having to do it after it was installed and filled with oil.
