Clutch lever question/ aftermarket
« on: February 04, 2012, 11:58:52 PM »
So I got the shorty lever.. going on the clipons. (Im totally new to this please just note..and thanks for all the help everyone!...you guys are great!)
Ok, so I noticed there's a wire that's the only one coming into the clutch..but the newer aftermarket doesn't have this spot. What is this wire for? 2nd ...how do I get it out?
Will these aftermarket shorty levers be ok?
- thanks again!

That wire is for the clutch safety switch.
It prevents the starter from engaging when the bike in gear unless the clutch lever is pulled in.
The switch can be removed by pushing it out from the back.
But as you notice the new clutch perch lacks a hole for the switch.
You can bypasss the safety switch but as the name suggests it's there as a safety device.

How are you going planning to replace the left control? (hi-low beam/horn/blinker switches?)

I wasn't sure. I thought I could just place this setup over the clipons and be fine?
I don't need hi beams and blinkers and horn aren't much needed I thought cause I just use hand signals and horn ...well ....figured its not a dire need. What u think? So can I bypass that wire and say f it? I understand its a safety thing but I will be fine. Ive been riding for 5 years now and always pull clutch in...I have 06 gsxr trackbike and needs to be done everytimeWhat u think;

I don't know about the laws in your state but in most states at least a horn and hi/lo beam is required for the bike to be ridden on the street.

As far as the clutch switch, it's up to you.

If I cut that wire....and won't the cables from that left housing unit b fine? All the wires will still be there? It's just that wire that is the problem. Then I think I should be fine right? I'm not replacing that unit just putting it back.

I disabled the clutch switch on mine a long, long time ago. Other bikes don't seem to need them.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Yes, the electric starter will work with the bike in neutral.

So can I cut that wire or I still wasn't sure how it comes out?? I loosened that bolt and still it didn't move. How is it removable? Or should I cut it?

Do you have the shop manual? With a wiring diagram? You're going to need it!
If not you can get one here: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/shop-manual

The switch can be removed from the housing by pushing it out from the outside.
Grab the wires near the housing and push them back towards the switch.
It may be stuck, you might have to use a small screw driver or piece of wire to help push it out.

I have a haynes 550 manual I got yesterday. That's all.
There's a wiring diagram at the end but I have not a clue how to read that.

Such a long time ago. I cut the wires as close to the bars as possible then just joined the other ends I think.

you dont need a hydraulic clutch master cylinder on the older cb550 as its cable operated,,thatll suit a later model maybe.
