Thanks for that detailed information. It's always helpful in making a decision when all the information is at hand. Still not sold on anything, but I have a few months before it's warm enough for the garage to be useful anyway.

Mick

I have some crap that I need to move out of the house. It was a two part thing that was freight damagerd and as I was looking at it at the habitat store, the guy said I will give you all of it for $20 or something like that.  I think it's mostly junk, maybe I can get one good out of four, and all the "flakes" made to throw on are all that is really good of any of it.

I found something in a can that is a one part gallon can that also is called 'epoxy' but an off brand.

If I was ever to have a clean , swept garage (never) maybe I could use the most available one part stuff and throw the sprinkles from the other stuff.

Not like the place is industrial, but the first coat [cheaply available grey one coat "epoxy"] with one part and sprinkles while it's wet should stick, what would I put over it  as a second semi-transparent piss coat?

Thnks RR, what I had im mind. That's the plan I guess.  I'll look at the cheap stuff at the donor store and see if it's compatible, I really like the idea of an epoxy type garage floor.  I figure a weekend and a coulple hundred bucks and elbows , or less, and it's a project that is done for my lifetime.

What...no polished marble? ;)  Looks like you did a nice job.  Probably fine for your climate....have my doubts about it holding up long term in our climate.  My only concern would be dropping a heavy tool or object and cracking tiles. Keep a few large sheets of cardboard handy for protection.  If you are really good and conscientious about getting a good bed of mortar with no voids you will alleviate cracking from high point loads like that full tool chest rolling around.  Large tiles like those require a trowel with with at least 1/4 by 1/4 or even 1/4 by 3/8 especially over concrete with it's dips and hollows.  Maybe even expensive leveling compound depending on the floor.  I did a repair for a neighbor (who had a less than stellar attention to detail) ;D  that had as his first tile attempt tiled his concrete patio with large tiles.  Not enough mortar and at least 10 percent where cracked after a short time.  Many others had large voids and would have eventually cracked so I broke them out and replaced....maybe 25% when it was all done.  You can detect a void by sound when running your hand over the tile.

Benjamin Moores Patio and Floor is really good. Its a acrylic modified epoxy. Water clean up and durable

I highly suggest it... I am a Journeyman Red seal Painter and decorator and have lots of experience with it.

We use high quality epoxy's and give a 10 year guarantee, i wouldn't do that with any water based products.....

That's great! You an use what you use.... Obviously if you went with a true epoxy it would last longer...
I was simply suggesting this product for the average DIY'er.. Easy to find, use, clean up and is still really durable. We used this on our floors in our down draft rooms and paint booths. It is extremely user friendly. You maybe have to re coat it in a few years or touch it up... All in all best bang for the buck;)

No problems mate, I think for shop floors, especially where motors are being pulled apart and oil and fuel may contaminate, there is no substitution for a good heavy solids epoxy floor.
