Totally screwed myself..
« on: February 08, 2012, 12:59:55 pm »
A fairly local motorcycle shop advertised that they had a used 1978 cb550k seat. I bought it just for the pan and had it shipped to me. In the meantime I sold my mint seat to recoup some costs for my build (I only wanted a decent pan anyway). Well, the replacement seat arrived today and I got totally screwed. Check out the pic. My seat is on the bottom, his "replacement" is on the top. I already sold the bottom seat. Now what the hell do I do? Not to mention its rusted to hell. I emailed him about 10 times confirming that it was a 1978 550k too! What a jerk. Now I have no GD seat!

Take the seat back to him and ask for your money back.  Show him the picture you posted above.

Well considering he is not returning your emails, ya you are pretty much screwed.

We have all been in that boat at one time or another.

Still sucks though.   I guess you are left with cruising ebay and hoping for a better outcome.

The smaller seat is from a ~73 CB360..

You didn't screw yourself, the dealer screwed you.  Get your money back.

If its from a 'fairly local' shop it sounds like a personal visit is in order.

Sorry to hear it.  Same thing happened to me.  Thought I was getting a 78 750k seat, asked repeatedly if the seller was sure it was from that bike which they said it was.  When it showed up.... a cb360 >:(

I still haven't and haven't been able to sell it.  Maybe one of these days someone will need it.

But it does reinforce the 'trust but verify' nature of buying used parts. Never sell the old ones until you are sure the replacement will work.

Yep, that's it. I screwed myself by selling the good one before getting the other in the mail.

It looks a lot more like a CB350K seat, guess he's going to say it was a misprint?

Thanks for the offer, but I think the 77 and 78 pans are unique to those years only.

ohh yeah, I forgot about this one, I think it's what you are looking for, but, it's kinda nice to just use for the pan...but no one seems to want it, let's try and work a deal if it's the right one...
