Brief update ('cause not much happened really)!
Swapped batteries with the race bike thinking that might be the problem (no lights etc), same thing. Then pulled the side cover and wiggled some wires and 'voila'! Tried the bike again and it started on the first go. YAY!
Well, not really... The smoke I referred to on my previous posts is back and this time I recorded it on video. In the video it looks like it has a much more blue tinge to it than I noticed in person... so now I'm thinking it is DEFINITELY burning oil. That sucks.

Also I found the wire that is causing the problem and it is the one with the 15A fuse. The fuse gets so hot once I turn the key that it melts the black tape... Not sure if it's shorting or if I need a different fuse but whatever it is, it isn't good and I don't know how to fix.
I'm starting to think (more like realize) I'm in over my head with this bike...
I really want to fix the bike and get this project going but there more I work on it the more it seems I don't have the skills or the knowledge necessary.

The difference in sizes never ceases to amaze me! That black little thing on the left is my 4cell LiPo from the race bike.
Any comments or ideas on where to take it from here would be appreciated.
