you can also use tape but I have used both the permatex and super glue if you use tape make sure you pull it out as you are puting it together

You can't get the properly-shaped ones to stay? Try the circular ones that come in some rebuild kits!

A tiny drop of super glue in the corners will work. DO NOT use gasket shellac. I don't know how I ended up buying it, but it did not go well.

I use a product called Gasgacinch.  It looks pretty much like what Honda used but maybe a bit lighter in color.
It like a contact cement that get tacky but never hard.  Put a small amount in the groove using a toothpick.  And coat one side of the new gasket.  Let dry, then put the gasket on. you can keep most of it separated with a piece of paper. and slide the paper out as the gasket fills the grooves from the corner and on across the bowl opening.  You don't use the sealer on the carb face side.

I've never used the pre-shaped ones, though, just the round ones from Honda.  Technique should work the same, though.

I used scotch tape on the round ones in the corners and pulled it out before cinching it down.

yea had most corners fit fine but one would just pop up and when I tried gettin that to push and settle down the other side would pop up. Nothing ever works properly for me...ever. this rebuilding stuff is just always fighting me. Anyways, used the superglue. * I was just confused if I should be putting anything on the gaskets cause I heard the rule was nothing in there that is a no no.  Anyone know where I can order new boots from??

Just the tiniest dab of superglue won't hurt the gasket, so it's okay.

Boots? Which ones? Fork, master cylinder banjo bolt, battery terminal, riding boots?

Oh those. You talking about the ones between the manifold and carbs, or between the carbs and airbox?

Cheers,

Gaskacinch has been around forever and is the perfect thing to use. Since 1960 at least.
It is used by most motorcycle shops  for putting motorcycle engine cases together.
Yamabond is the same.

I like the preshaped ones never have a problem with them. Your bowls are not like mine. The shape is the same but where the groove is I have four little tabs that go a little less than half way across the groove the rubber gets pushed under the tabs to hold it in place. Maybe they are only on the 77-78 bowls. I will see if I can find a pic. PD 42b&a carbs

I see but where you mean a local Honda shop??? I absolutely hate my local Honda shop...its a marine boat Honda shop and its main focus is boats...the service is horrible and the desk help is junk. That's why I'm always on here asking for specific sites  for  parts. I hate my local shop and there's no vintage shops around

I use petroleum jelly to put the round gaskets on carbs.  Won't eat the gasket and gas dissolves it.
