CB750A- starting the bike
« on: July 03, 2013, 11:06:12 PM »
i finish the rebuilding of the 1977 cb750A, today i started the bike and its starts right off.  there was rough ideling in the begining, but now everything seems to be working fine. the only problem i have :-[ ..
1) when the bike started ( in neutral position) the chain sproket is moving too. when i rev high its rotate faster. is it normal or someting wrong, i'm asking because to my mind in neutral, the sproket shouldn't be moving. i did not connected the rear wheel yet.
2) the the wiring part i did not connected the rear brake switch, because i'm having little trouble with color code in the wiring. the parking switch and the rear brake stop switch. if anybody could tell me which wire with thats a big help too.

this is two questions in one, please help me out. i wanna finish this on 4th july day off...thanks

The rear wheel spinning when in neutral is normal - provided you can easily stop it with the rear brake.

The parking switch colors are:

- green
- white with green stripe
- green with yellow stripe (and with a yellow tube next to the connector)
- green with yellow strip (and with a red tube next to the connector)

The rear brake light switch colors are:

- green with yellow strip (no additional tube next to the connector)
- black

The small little tubes are typically small little barrels of insulation - these things can slide up down the wire, so they may or may not be right at the connector.

Lastly, each wire connects to another same color wire.

1978 CB750A (upgrading very, very slowly)

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.

thanks for the reply. for some reason my parking switch 4 connector wires are different.

this is how wire harness connector colors as you mentioned...
- green (Male connector)
- white with green stripe (Female connector)
- green with yellow stripe (and with a yellow tube next to the connector) (Female connector)
- green with yellow strip (and with a red tube next to the connector) (Male connector)

but wires coming from the parking switch are diferent.
i have
- Black (Male connector)
- white with green stripe  (Female connector)
- green with yellow stripe (and with a yellow tube next to the connector) (Male connector)
- green with yellow strip (and with a red tube next to the connector) (Female connector)

It looks like you have a 76 parking switch on a 77 bike.  The 77/78 parking switches differ from the 76.  Here's an excerpt from the 76 schematic.
