Bill here..............

A sad end to a perfect day.  After the great ride me Vern and adam had up to Chattanooga, The end of the day went like this:

Adam and I split up at Hwy 20 and I-575.  I got off on Hwy 20 and came up on some slow traffic, I slowed to around 10mph when.....outa nowhere.....I got rear ended by a pickup truck.  The bumper on the truck Hit directly on my back tire and litteralt knocked my bike out from under me.  I had just enough time to tuck and roll off to the left and then I had to lay there and watch my bike continue on riderless.  My bike cruised another 60 yards and...as it started to slow and vear to the left it smacked a car that had stopped and pretty much slammed over on it's right side.  At this point the #$%%%$## that hit me took off.  No worries though, the fine men of the Canton Police force had him in cuffs within 10 minuets.  Don't know if he was drunk...drugggin...no insurance.  A this point I just have to wait on the police report.  I am fine (sort of) I got a fractured Fibula and a nice sprained ankle.  I was big time lucky and BIG TIME glad I had my jacket on.  I convinced that I would be mess had it not been for elbow and shoulder armour.  Now on to the sad part...........

My bike has all teh cosmetic damage you would expect......along with.....something broke inside teh motor  :(   The kick starter will go down...but it's crazy stiff.  Allmost like the motor is seizing up.  Thoughts??  Ideas??

She will no doubt end up at Larry's....but, I gotta deal with the whole insurance nightmare first.  Good news....I'll live.  Bad news.....I'm not sure about my original owner 1976 Vintage baby.

Major thank you to Adam and Laura and the girls.  He was there with his traile about 2 mins after I called him.  My wife Tammy came and picked me and the bke up in my truck and then we spent the rest of the night in the ER.

Zilla made it and teh show goes on.........

I'll keep y'all posted........WEAR YOUR DAMN RIDING GEAR...........ALLWAYS!!

Bill

I second and third the advice on the gear Bill. No matter how damn hot it is, I wear mine and I'm glad you kept yours on.

Damn, Bill.  Thank God you're pretty much OK.  Bring the bike to Birmingham, and we can get to work on it with beer and wrenches.  Let me know if I can do anything for you.  I can t' imagine a tibia taking longer to heal than ribs or clavicles.  I can attest that you will heal.  Meanwhile keep a good attitude.  (Beer helps)  ;D

Bill,
Sorry to hear about your crossing paths with such a dirtbag. So much more relieved that you weren't more seriously hurt. Things could have ended much worse. Valuable lesson here about watching your mirrors. I'm borderline ADHD about checking my mirrors as I come to a stop and pointing the bike at the gaps between the cars ahead. A quick lane split puts the texting or drunk or sleeping or reading or daydreaming driver behind me into the car that used to be in front of me, instead of on top of me. I'm also obsessive about red-light runners (almost had my ticket punched by a red-light running dirtbag that also left the scene) and practice both preventative measures even when I'm "in the cage" so that the process has become instinctive.

Let us know what you need to get your bike back in working order, if I've got a spare laying around of what you need it's yours. Mend well and keep us posted.

DUDE!!!! So I was gonna #$%* about the rain on the way home today....

SO glad you're relatively unscathed; though totally bummed about your bike. I just rebuilt a 500 last year and would be honored to restore yours. Let me know if there's anything the N'ville PseudoMoto boys can do for ya!

Yeah, good advice. I was rear-ended about 20 years ago and I'm same way with the mirrors now.

Bill, get well and I hope the bike isn't too bad.  I had to sue the guy who hit me. He had no insurance either. It took about five years to collect.

Wow Bill that totally sucks. We are all pulling for you hope the damage to you heals up quickly same for you ride.

Totally reminds me the other day I saw the same thing happen to a guy on a BMW I was at the light on my CB making a right turn and he was stopped 90 degrees just in front of me some lady in an SUV hit him from behind knocked him of the bike and ran it under her SUV. I stopped and filled out a witness form, the guy was okay but the bike and truck were toast.

Just one bout of rain but not a real storm like we had Sunday.

I did make a bone head mistake.. I thought this morning after adjusting chain I would check plugs.. so I pulled #4 and cleaned it then went to put it back in and cross threaded it.  so i had to just keep tightening and kept fingers crossed.. it fired up and ran pretty well, so off I went.. needless to say I didn't remove/clean any of the other plugs.. 1 messed up plug is enough..

Good to meet you guys too.. and the Mrs even if you have her riding a Night Hawk

Heck of a ride there coke! I knew you were going to be reaching out there, but you've gone above and beyond! And you're not done! And you already touched five states! Way to set the bar to the stratosphere!  8) 8) 8)

I'm hoping to reach out to North Carolina at the conclusion of this year's U.S. portion of the relay and bring GZ 2.0 to Florida via another jaunt across the Tail of the Dragon and possibly Six Gaps in Georgia. Maybe even shoot for Key West. Without the Keys visit I'm figuring at least 1200 miles (did about 650 last year).

Well done!
