Moon...I had planned something similar, but my issue was that the new grips are longer than the old grips.  A buddy of mine suggested that I stick a dowel rod in them for support and just use a razor blade to cut them the length I needed.  That worked like a charm.  They are now installed and sitting in the sun so the hairspray can dry.  Obviously I can look at them and see the difference, but I doubt anyone who casually walks by would ever notice.

I ordered some shorty Pazzo knockoffs the other day.  They should help in allowing me to adjust the mirrors down a bit.  As it was the levers would hit the mirror stanchions so I had to have them turned up higher than I liked.

All of my parts are at the painters right now.  However, when I get them back I will get some pics for you.

Since you are using the fork brace the fender would simply be to keep the engine cleaner and not provide any support.  You could easily get away with making a simple aluminum bracket to mate the CB fender to the GL forks.  There would be no welding or drilling the CB fender at all.

Any paint pictures yet??

Sadly no.  I am supposed to get my parts at the end of this week, but that could mean today, tomorrow, or Saturday.

Looking forward to seeing the paint and how it mates with the rest of the bike bits.

Received the levers today and installed them.  They look like they are of pretty good quality.  I did have to tighten one of the screws for the adjustment lever because it was a little bit loose, but other than that I (so far) am happy with them.  They accomplished what I hoped they would in allowing me to rotate the mirror stanchions forward a lot more.

Now if I could just get my painted parts.

Just some pics of the tank.  He primed it and is now going over it with some lightweight filler to get it flat and smooth.  I didn't expect him to go over it with the body filler.  I figured he would spray the primers then block it flat as he could.

Hey harsh, i was browsing your build and wanted to say CONGRATS on senior chief thats gotta feel good i just finally pinned on 2nd class last month. also man am i jealous of the goldwing front end with dual disks, i really wanted on but had a hard time finding one and 2 justifying the money for it, especially since ive already gone way over budget. but the color is awesome my buddy has a harley with a similar colored frame and he gets compliment all the time on it!

also i see you have a Daytona 675 how do you like it? when i was in sanfran my buddy let me ride his speed triple around for a bit and i fell in love and since then i have been eyeing either a speed triple or a Daytona. i haven't ridden the Daytona yet but i do dig it! so if you have any input on them id like to hear it, i transfer this summer and will either be getting a 3rd bike or selling my vstar to getting something faster.

keep up the good work, cant wait to see the finished product and i like the seat you have i think its the same one  have or very similar.

Harsh, hope the suspense is not killing you. Waiting can be hard.

Hang in there and prep for reassembly and get a roll of green painter's tape for that process...

USCG...Thanks man, I does feel pretty good to have that star.  I only have a few months left at my current command then I am off to my final tour before I retire.  I got lucky on the front end.  It was local and cheap.  When I took off the stock front end I noticed both forks were bent.  You can kind of see it in one of the first few pictures.  I never had a budget when I started this build.  I was going to build and buy as I could.  If I needed or wanted something that was expensive I would save up until I had enough money to buy it.  We do have the same seat.

The Daytona is...well...simply amazing.  My only complaint is that every time I ride it I feel like I am in attack mode.  It just begs to be ridden hard and fast and it handles everything I can throw at it with ease.  I rode my buddy's 2013 Street Triple at Deals Gap this summer and it was so nice.  It has the same power plant as the Daytona, but its manners were easy going.  It didn't care if you flogged the hell out of it or just took a leisurely jaunt down the road.  I like it so much that I am seriously contemplating selling the Daytona and getting a Street.

RAF...The suspense is absolutely killing me.  Actually I am starting to get pissed.  The painter has had my parts since the 29th of August.  In a little over a months’ time I have received one little update on their progress.  I want to get everything together so I can get some good pictures to hopefully get into the calendar, but my timeline is slipping away.  I have a week long detachment I have to go on next week and when I return form that I have to go to Cali for my sister’s wedding.  Upon return from that I have two more detachments that I have to do a few weeks’ time.  Add in going to college and my available time to work on the bike is virtually nil.  I am going to call him today and see if I can get an update.

Dude, that means you are either in the painter's house or you now have possession of the "tins" !
That is great news and they aren't so crappy photos.  Looks good/turned out nice...
Look forward to more when you have time to reassemble it and share those photos...

David...Let me know if you need or want another picture of the back of the fender.  That is what I ended up with when I cut the whale tail off of the GL fender.

Stoked is not even close to the feeling I have.  I sent my painter text yesterday afternoon asking for an update.  He replied with an update on what.  Trying to stay calm I replied with the motorcycle parts you are working on for me.  All I get in return is what motorcycle.  I was about to lose my mind.  A little while later he sends me a text saying they are done and that I can pick them up later.  I waited, impatiently, and pretty much gave up hope of getting the call.  Then about 7:30 he says he is back at the shop and I can swing by.

Unfortunately, I have to take three quizzes today and study for my midterm that I am taking on Saturday so I am not sure how much work I am going to get accomplished.  All I know is that I had a very hard time sleeping last night.

Painters are a strange breed. So many are extremely flakey. It's really difficult to find one with talent and clockwork reliability. I got lucky with my last one.

If you can, yes I would still like to see some pictures of the front fender. I ended up buying a '78 Super Sport fender but I wanted to get some ideas to decide whether to shorten it. I wanted to see how the GL without the tail looked in terms of scale.
