swingarm tire question
« on: July 14, 2012, 09:49:13 PM »
So im planning on running 5 to 6 over swingarm on a cb550. My buddy was saying ill need to run a wider tire so it will stay stable. I was firugureing the lenth of the swing arm would be more than enough. For straight line stability. Any one got anything on this. Btw im going to run a set of dual sport tires bc where i live i get on alot of gravel and dirt roads.
slow Progress 74 cb550.

I could see a wider tire being more stable on a 6 over swingarm. I don't know if it's necessary but I'm sure it'll help. I do know that if you are using your stock wheel that you need a wider rim. The 550 rear rim can only accommodate tires a little thicker than a rubber band. But seriously, if you run a tire much wider than 4" on a stock rim it'll never fit properly. Lucky is right though. The bike handles awesome with the stock wheelbase. I think a stretched swingarm would pretty much take all the fun out of it.
