Hi all, I recently purchased a CB750K that had been sitting in a garage for close to fifteen years. Easily the best craigslist find I've ever had. The guy I bought it from said it was a '73 but when I looked up the numbers it matched up with a '72. It has some K1 parts and some K3 parts on it. He had it all dressed up for touring with a hideous faring, hump back seat with a sissy bar and bar spacers to put the bars back two inches and big high rise bars. but other than cosmetic stuff it had been very well cared for. I'm pretty sure he also put slightly longer fork tubes on it and there's a 4-1 exhaust that I can't identify.

This will be my first time working on motorcycles and I'm pretty excited to make my vision of a cafe come true. I'll be posting up some pictures when I get them uploaded. Hopefully it goes smoothly. Haha.

I will have some nice parts to sell/trade if anyone is interested, such as a faring, luggage rack/sissy bar, hump back seat and rear fender and tail light.

Sorry for the delay. Here's some pics of what little progress i have made. I don't have any good pictures of the bike when i got it.

When I got the bike home


I was trying to picture it with a different seat and bars


Got it on a cinder block taking it apart


Now its almost fully disasembled



I'll get some more pictures of the bike and parts when i get a free moment.

You sure are faster than me getting it apart.  I still need to get the ATF/Acetone mix in the cyl's to try and break the motor loose.  Hopefully today I will do that.  Oh, I did clean up a seat pin and bend it straight today so I could mount the seat, woohoo.  :)

I was pretty bummed about the dent, but that seems to be the worst of it. Thankfully. Here's a picture of the fairing. The paint is bad and the windscreen is gone but, there aren't any cracks and it has the wire loom and brackets. If interested, make an offer.

Haha, definitely won't be putting the crash bars back on. I'm going for a simple cafe in the spirit of the 60's and 70's. Clean and simple, I have always loved the look of cafe bikes and now I finally get the chance to build my own.

Finished getting everything removed down to the frame, so I can paint it this week. When I removed the headlight there was a nasty cob job of the electrical system, it was super knotted.





I have some other parts i have removed from the bike (rear fender, headlight ears, tail light and luggage rack w/ sissy bar) I'll be posting in the classifieds.

I think you can get a new harness for that year at cb750supply.com

I did for the 75 and was much happier for it. Cleaning the female ends of the bullet connectors can be a pain.

I'm gonna try and setup a simple one myself, I've never done one before. I hear it's super fun. Haha. I'm stripping everything that's not vital to the operation of the engine.

The old wiring looks a bit worn & cobbled. If you're going the minimalist route; you might want to buy a new harness and weed out the wires you don't need. This way the color coding can match the OEM schematic.

I picked up a new harness for K3 from parts and more and it was much easier then trying to work with the disaster that was there before hand...

2 cents from someone who inherited the anal gene...

If you want to save some $$$ & your handy with wiring - I'd opt to make my own harness after sketching out a wiring diagram. Use as much of the old wires/connectors as possible. Make sure all the connectors/connections are clean. When making up wires/connections; make sure to crimp & solder. I would even put a dab of dielectric grease on all the connections (keep them from corroding & makes a water resistant connection).

So I took apart the front caliper today to clean and re-build, one of the bolts was seized in there and snapped flush with the body. It took about two hours and two snapped easy outs before deciding to drill it out and re-thread. Ended up drilling a hole from the outside of the caliper body for extraction. Really glad I didn't have to buy another one.

Man, I hope you get this bike put back together as fast as you tore it apart! :o If you do decide to do your own harness, Tool Exchange in Prescott Valley has 4 foot (?) lengths of shrink tubing in various sizes.

Thanks scottly I'll check them out, I'm hoping to have this bike on the road in a week or two. I fixed the two dents in the tank and sanded, so it's ready for paint. Engine will hopefully be back in the frame Tuesday.

I have not had any spare time or money over the past few weeks, but before i stopped i did get some more stuff done. The frame has been cleaned up (cut and ground tabs/mounts) engine has been put back into frame, new bolt set installed in engine, swing arm cleaned up and installed, rear sets installed, tank painted, seat mounted (still need to figure out how to upholster), shortened on fork, but I think it's still gonna be way to long. The guy put different fork tubes on there, 27" long! I hopefully will have the bike rolling real soon, then a new harness. If anybody has some CB550 forks or even stock CB750 K2 forks let me know I want them! haha
