frame welding
« on: February 17, 2012, 09:38:35 AM »
Hi most of the frame complete now, but before i go any further do i need to do any welding on the frame, is it ok as it is or do the half welds and puddle welds need welding alround, or will this stress the frame, as ive said before this is only a lookalike and not a out and out racer, it will only be  used for parade laps. although if it is ever sold to someone who intends to race it i would like to do the mods now, while its a bare frame,

no secret, sam just put me onto the thread about frame mods, but it does'nt cover welding the half welded or puddle weld joints, all i wanted to know was does it stress the frame to much. i think most say, leave them as they are .

Ah. I thought there was some double secret probation cabal type stuff going on. I was going to get some areas of my F frame welded, like the front downtubes and such. I do know that you should not completely weld gussets and such on the ends, but I forgot why. For instance, the piece on top that goes from the headstock to the top tube. it looks like a ridge, and actually has some space between it and the tube, kinda looks like a railroad tunnel? That you should leave the ends alone, but the sides are okay to hit. By puddle welds, do you mean the plug welds? the various small round ones? Those should be okay.
