Topic: 1975 CB550F KickStarter assembly keeps falling apart

I am currently stuck on installing the kickstarter mechanism back into my case. Every time I think I have it back together, the damn thing falls apart when I try to go through the gears, put the clutch cover on or any time I basically bump the bike. What could possibly be wrong. I have put it back in following the directions/diagrams in the clymers manual. Do those little circlips that hold the springs and gears on the shaft wear out? I am wondering if thats the case. Any help would be much appreciated.

if its the little circlip springing off replace it,they stretch easy on dissembly even with a correct circlip plier,you might force it in the closed direction to try and shrink it,id get a new one,also orient the clips most square edge to the outer of the shaft,one side is slightly curved from the stamp out.
