clutch basket??

Question is, should there be any play in the rivots between the primary gear and clutch basket of a 500/550. I have several and some do, some don't. I would try to tighten the rivots, but don't want to make things worse either.

I would guess no, but that's only a guess. I do recall that Corvair clutch pressure plates were riveted together, and if the rivets loosened up, it would cause severe clutch chatter. (I took my driver's license road test in my brother's Corvair, and had points knocked off because of it
) The fix was to drill out the rivets and replace them with grade 8 bolts, then stake the ends of the bolts. Don't know if that would be feasible with the smaller rivet size.

There isn't much space for any other type fastener. The baskets I have that don't exhibit any play I expect haven't been in use for a while otherwise might also be the same. Problem is I'm putting nearly double the horsepower through it and sure don't want to see them fail.

Von Dutch, there are damper rubbers on the primary drive shaft, but not the clutch basket.
