Topic: Help! Does clutch basket float?

Hi, putting my clutch back together, noticed that with the lock nut torqued up the basket slightly floats on the transmission spindle, about .5mm maybe more. Thrust washer correctly placed between basket and engine side. All bits in there for sure.. Help!!

not up on the 400f, but if is anything like the 500 it has to be shimmed. check your parts book and service manual.

went back to the main page and tried to look up manuals for your bike to answer your question..looks like there is not much. if you have a clymer manual i think you will find the answer there. sorry not much help. maybe another member will be able too.

Thanks for replies, had a think and as there is no stop for the basket to tighten against, if it was tight on the shaft it would be pulling on the transmission, producing a lateral force on the bearings, doesn't seem like anything else in the engine is tightened that way, so maybe it's ok??

You've got the washer under the inner ring right? I thought about it more and .5mm seems alot but I could be wrong.

Not sure I quite understand what u mean by inner ring?? From the engine side I have: 25mm washer, clutch basket (on top hat spacer with rim on inside of basket) clutch thing which the springs sit on, clutch plates, inner clutch basket, thrust washer with 'out side' facing outwards, lock washer, luck nut. Checked it against the manual and all ok, or have I missed something?
