Case split, what to look for?
« on: February 19, 2012, 07:08:45 PM »
My pistons were rusty so on the advice of ekpent and chewbacca5000 I split my case to see what the bottom end looks like. Here's the original thread if you want the background. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=101160.msg1130874#msg1130874
The rods are definitely rusty, but the bearing is not. This is my first time doing something like this so I don't know what I'm looking for. Can I clean up the rods and start putting it back together or can anyone see any other issues? Is there something else I need to look for?
Thanks

Look at the wristpins and journals to see if there is any rust and  metal galling.
Also check you bearings for rust.
Good luck
