Saving money on O-rings
« on: March 29, 2012, 07:46:08 PM »
The o-rings on my main jet and needle/seat needed replacement as they almost always do. I was also advised wisely by others on this site to replace the o-rings on the t-fittings that link the individual carbs together..
A company called Dayton Seals and Packing in Dayton OH got a perfect fit for the t-fittings, and the fuel resistant ring they supplied is part number 568-011 VT-90  They are $.50 each and fit great. They also supplied o-rings for the needle/seat and main jet needle.
Part numbers are 568-009 VT-70 and  568-006 VT-70. They were a little tight,so I chucked them [the jets with o-rings mounted] in a battery drill and sanded them down with 220 wet-dry and some light oil like w-d 40. They fit great and did not take a great deal of skill to accomplish
Six dollars thirty cents for a rack of four is hard to beat.
I asked if you guys could call with these part numbers and a credit card, and they said yes. [937] 228 2300
My carb is a 096A on a 1977 cb550, but I suspect that it shares in common these fittings with other bikes as well.

With those "VT" part numbers I imagine they are Viton and resistant to Ethanol ?

Yes, the VT is Viton. The VT70 is a little softer ring than the VT90, but they were out of stock on the 70's in that one size.
The idea for this came from the FAQ on this forum, but they only listed the size of the O-rings and not the source where they could be purchased....
