CB750 F1 camshaft & holders
« on: February 26, 2012, 06:55:15 AM »
Hello all.
I'm currently restoring a CB750 F1 '76 which has the camshaft and holders totally worn. I'm looking through e-bay, but it is very difficult to find a set of a camshaft and matching holders, being besides for the CB750 F1 model.
The question is, could I use a set of camshaft and holders from a different year/model?
Could I buy a F1 camshaft and holders separately expecting them to match or the wear on them would make a mismatch for sure?
Thanks in  advance for your help.

I would wait to find a matching set, which may take awhile.  ;)

I have an F1 and I believe the camshaft and holders are the same as previous models.  I think things may have changed with the "77-'78 F, for sure on the cam.

Best advise would be to quarry Hondaman (Mark Paris)!!

F and F1 cams were a definite improvement over the mid years K models. The 77 and 78 K has a similar cam but timing is at 40 degrees vs 35 degrees for the F and F1. The F2 and F3 cam is different in that it was designed for the engine with bigger valves. No reason you couldn't use one of those but I can't compare like I did with the F vs K. As far as the cam holder goes they are all the same. Find one with little wear and matching letters on the caps and use it. When we replace stock cams with new/used hot cams we do not use new cam holders (not available). Keep this in mind, the cam holder is aluminum and the cam is steel. The cam journal will ride on top of any slight imperfections in the holder so as long as the cam journals are good the limiting factor is using a "decent" cam holder with matching caps.
