What Size Pods for my 80 650C?
« on: May 22, 2006, 12:46:52 PM »
Anyone have the K&N part number for this application?

Or, can you offer the OD of the intake?

I ride my bike almost every day, so I'm hoping to order this stuff in advance -- Not just being lazy. 8)

Thanks,

Zeke

I can measure them for you in the morning.  My 80 is at work in pieces.   Although I put k/n on my 80 once and the inner two filters interfered with the choke.  Made little extencion tubes for them.

Thanks, Guys.

Yah, maybe if you go with the singles route you have to be more careful about the shape of the pod to eliminate the choke problem.

The K&N website has a whole sheet of universals, different diameters, lengths, angles....

Of course, no where there could I find the info I needed about exactly which one fits my bike, haha.

I'll check out the 2 x 2 and also see if I like the 4 x 4 setup better.

You Rock,

Zeke

Edit at Add:

I'm a f'ing moron.  They have a product chooser, I was looking in the universal pod area.   :D

I didnt look at this site but the jet kit they list for the 650 lists 80 and 81 as the same which is wrong.  Checked into the kits many years ago.

Hey Terry:

Yah, I looking into that kit as well.  It's only for the CV carbs....

I bought the K & N 2 x 2 air filter setup.  It I have to do a bunch of jet work to run my new hooker pipes I'm not f'ing wrestling with the stock airbox.  I have a feeling I'm going to need shims to work out the notorius "flat spot", and I think the carbs will have to come in and out a few times to make that work.

I'll let ya know how it goes...

while we're on the subject, i just ordered a MAC full exhuast system for my 72 cb500 four. header and performance (i think) muffler. my next step is to put on pod filters and re-jet. anyone out there with experience in this matter, let me know. i've seen a lot of posts from people who buy pods and then end up having the choke crash into them, or fiddling around with the jetting forever, and i'll be honest, i'm lazy and i dont have that kind of time. if you've done this mod on a 500/550 before and know what i need, please tell me and save me time and money. thanks guys.

cb500 maniac, too many years ago I had a 72 500. I installed a performance 4 into 1 and velocity stacks, I was able to run the standard jetting and had no problems, later on for the track I did play round with the carbs.
