One more mystery carb set...
« on: February 18, 2012, 01:04:41 PM »
Hi,
Name's Alan, nice to meet you. I am new to the forum but will be posting up through out the process of the rebuild.
I have a 1971 CB500 I picked up on trade from a guy. I have been trying to get everything back in order on it. Guy claims they are 550 carbs of "some sort" anyway The carbs read PD 44BBPA ク (japanese ku) (seen in pictures) I can't for the life of me figure out where they are or where they are from...The carbs when the gas is turned on just pour gas out of number two which from my deductive reasoning need some cleaning so I have them off and am scrubbing the years of crap out of them. I guess if anyone is willing to help out this newbie get his CB500 running I would greatly appreciate it.

I have a 1981 CM450E that i got running sweet now that i love. Just trying to get this one going too. Thanks and cheers.

Yep, that float is definitely upside down. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

try and find the earlier"type one"carbs for your 500,they look like this, the screws on the top cap are side by side not fore and aft like those wrong pd type you have.

there should be a return spring where those arrows are, this is an old photo i used in an earlier carb thread.

hahaha yeah I can't believe some of the stuff I'm finding on this bike. I just traded a dirtbike for it to get outta motorcrossing. I finally finished my cm450e twin rebuild and have been looking for something else. This project bike seems it's up the creek with out a paddle sometimes.

I was really trying to figure out what carbs these were so I could clean them up and sell them on ebay for a quick buck to put towards some carbs that actually make since on this bike. I'm not looking to make this bike a beauty queen, but getting her going sure would be nice.

Thanks for the tip. I have been wondering what I can get away with. I want to get a set of 1971 500 carbs for it but I don't wanna dish out $500 for carbs on a 41 year old beater.. I see 550 carb sets and 1973~1975~6 carb sets on ebay and what not I just don't know what would work with my cb500...I'm not the most technically inclined guy but way i figure i got that CM450 running i surely can do this too.

Here is a list for 750s I see 44s at the bottom I'm sure they go on others also.

http://www.hondachopper.com/garage/carb_specs/carb_specs.html

You should be able to find a set for your bike here for about a $100 they will need cleaning for that price and new rubber parts. Look in bikes and parts for sale and post in parts wanted they come up from time to time
