K1-K2 advance unit in a k4 750
« on: February 22, 2012, 09:26:13 PM »
I purchased hondamans book (thanx Mark) and have a few Q's about swapping out the advance units. I want to swap to a  k1-k2 advance unit in my k4.
1. If i swap unit for unit will this affect my timing?
2. Are you guys swapping springs only?
3. If i trim the spring will it give me the same results as just swapping it?.
4. Can I re-use my 74 points plate if i swap to a 71-72 advancer?
Im trying to get as much free hp/responce out of this motor as possible. My last k4 took forever to "settle down" or come back to idle. Im also hoping this might help with that at the same time. Thanx

It's a direct drop-in swap. Make sure the points cam is not worn on the inside, and loose or wobbly. On the K4, also try turning in the air screws to 7/8 to 15/16 of a turn instead of 1 turn or more. This will also help settle it down. It should idle steadily at 1050 RPM.
