Menard's seems a little sketchy on customer service

  After getting a dented refrigerator delivered, and now a defective fireplace, it seems it's all about moving the product out of the store.
  Menards sells their stuff down to the displays. When you check online to price their stuff,the amount shown as available includes the display model. The dented refrigerator was the display model, pointed out by the delivery driver that it was not even in the box. I got a wall mount electric fireplace from them,and the thing does not work properly with push buttons on the unit or the remote control. Not sure if this was a return with fresh packing tape or not...
  I inquired about returning it and getting a replacement with an extended warranty, and they said extended warranties are not available unless an item costs at least $250. Menards also does not tell you the brand name of the stuff they are selling on the website ad.
  What I am going to do is get Lowes to match the price and get an extended warranty from them. I called Lowes yesterday,and truthfully told them the whole deal. I was quickly referred up the chain of command and talked to the asst. store manager to make sure that they could offer the same price. Lowe's warranty starts after the factory warranty expires, and they will replace the entire unit one time if they cannot get repairs. I do not buy factory warranties as a rule, but this time i want one.
  I am not really trying to bash Menard's, but just telling you guys to be careful with these guys. It was just hard to get a straight answer out of them when I asked, "what do I do if this thing breaks again?

Never had a good experience with menards either. I got a toilet there and it had a hole in the bowl. It was a manufacturing defect and they STILL gave me trouble getting it replaced. The replacement was not formed right and so the seat does not sit on it properly but I was too pissed with the first experience to take it back. Who knows, the third one might have had some other issue.

I have had much better luck at Lowes and even home Depot.

  I have had similar problems at the Depot.  High end $2000 stove for a kitchen I was redoing.  Had damage from shipping that was not obvious till we installed it a week after delivery.  I got nowhere with HD but the homeowner (a friend) was MUCH more aggressive and confrontational than I and we got a new stove.  The manager was visably relieved when we left the store. ;D
   I find Menards to be cheaper and better stocked with a wider variety.  If I need an odd, uncommon, or unusual fitting I don't even bother going to the Depot but Menards will usually have it.  If you need advice HD is better but I know my sh!t so it doesn't matter to me.  When I build a deck I save at least  $150  in material cost by going to Menards and I get better wood because they usually have a larger supply to pick through.
   Lowes stores are not located near places I work so I have not used them as much.  I do find they have a better tile selection than either of the other two.
   The other reason is Menards (in the midwest) is local so a prefer to keep my money in my community even if it is a region.  ;)   Hd is a national chain and also owned by a right wing tool.  No thanks. :P

I went to the Twin cities once, and rather liked Menard's. Of course, I was not making a huge purchase, just a flashlight for my Nephew. I go to Home Despot mostly, or Ace, or a Mom and Pop. I refuse to go to Lowes since they pulled all their advertising off a TV show at the request of a bunch of religous wackjobs in Florida. My Wife gives me grief, but it's principle dammit!

Around here if you are discussing 'Menards'  you are usually talking about gonads.   

We only have Lowe's and Home Depot and did have Ace until they shut their local stores. They had he best fastener and fitting selections in a smaller store.  Either of the big box stores here you have to really compare prices if that is your concern because one store is cheaper on some things and vice versa.

Other than that,   HD took a toilet back , but it was still in the box.  I haven't had much problem with exchanging things other than Home Depot will give you a gift card instead of cash.  They took a toilet back , but it was still in the box. I   misplaced one  before I used it  so anymore  I end up buying stuff I don't immediately need just to use it up.
