I don't know about Wa. but here in TX if you get antique plates it comes with restrictions that outline where and how much you can ride.

"The frame, body and motor are at least 25 years old, and the vehicle is a collector’s item that will be used solely for exhibition, club activities, parades, and other functions of public interest (replicas do not qualify for Antique plates). The vehicle will not be used for regular transportation except when routine
maintenance is needed. The vehicle will not carry advertising."

Although I don't think it's enforced too aggressively here.
Do you have a copy of the Honda Shop Manual or Parts List for your bike? Get one here:

I have the "collector" plates on my 750's. Here in WI we get the plate and register the bike once. No need to ever pay another registration fee. The only restriction is we can not drive the bike in January when it is -10 degrees out.  :D Bike must be 20 years old.

Just got mine in the mail last week. No more yearly registration. The lady at the DOL made sure I knew it was for traveling to and from car shows only. Haha. Right. I wouldn't worry about being hassled by the man. How they going to prove anything? "I was riding it to get oil for a change and rotate the tires.... ;D ". Or "I just synced the carbs and was taking it out for a test ride." #$%* the man Bart!

here in Kansas there are no restrictions on how much you can drive it now they are asking if it is all original if you are getting a new tag and title for something else. for instance if you have a 1957 Chevy it has a blower and and all the hot rod stuff and it obvious that it's not original they will title and tag it as a 2012 1957 Chevy that is if your applying for a new title here if the vehicle is 35 yrs or older you don't need a title it classifies as a antique i have 7 vehicles that are tag as such each tag on the cars cost $17.00 a year versus the $45.00 minimum and my bikes are $9-$12 a year. versus the $35.00 minimum.anything under 49cc doesn't require tags or insurance at all.the good thing about antique tags also is when the fuzz pull you over they see the antique tag and don't bother getting you for no seatbelt.

In NY since the bike is over 25 years old I can use an original plate only with the original 1978 registration sticker on the plate. I have to have valid insurance, and inspection sticker. The actual current registration sticker must be carried on the bike.

Unlike Historical plates there is no restriction on how much I can ride. I can get Historical plates, but I like the freedom to ride on my own terms.

I have "antique" plates on my 550, registration is very reasonable and inspection not required.
As CR stated, there are restrictions, but not enforced.

not pulled over once in 2+ years on my 350F with collector plates.
as far as the poh-leese are concerned, i liked the 'keeping the varnish out of my bowls' excuse  8)
though, i think i paid nearly double the normal licensing fee to get them.

I went to the swap meet last year at the skagit county fairgrounds and ran into the plate guy. I bought a clean green motorcycle plate from him for $35. The last year for the green was 1976 same as my cb550. I had no problems at the DMV registering it as vintage. Good luck.

My yearly tab fee was $70+! It cost me less than that to license as vintage. My little 'stick it to the man' moment.  ;D

Seems like they leave some pretty big openings for interpretation in the restrictions, so it's probably not worth any officer's time to make a big deal out of it.  The best form of routine maintenance is to ride the bike regularly, so that basically nullifies the restrictions.

You will probably have more problem with the Insurance Company after an accident. They hate to pay.

the insurance companies do not like to pay i found that out this last summer i paid for a premium on accessories. close to 2000 in stuff the saddle bags cost me 65.00 new they gave me 150.00 for those.and a 150.00 for 600.00 cobra straight pipes,350.00 mustang seat,200.00 forward controls,500.00 risers, and 300.00 brand new tires with only about 75 miles on them plus some other little odds and ends so i got a whopping 300.00 check for all of that the saddle bag deal is what really pissed me off. 150.00 for 65.00 bags and then split upthe rest it was with dairyland. i did get more for the bike than what i paid for it. but no medical thank god for health insurnce. a person really needs to go over their policy with a fine tooth comb.
