b5rider that crankcase breather looks like its a little too close to ur seat. after awhile the leather and foam will start to absorb the oil from the crankcase fumes. id get a longer hose and rout that down where the carb overflow tubes are.

I'm going to be rejetting, sync, adjusting etc, my stock 78 PD46C carbs soon. The idle jets have to be drilled out, in order to remove them correct? I was told at the Honda dealership that you leave the idles alone. Despite following Denny Zander's guide for a 4into1 with pods in Chicago elevation telling me go up one size. To change idles or not to change?

Worst case drill them out, but try pulling them out with pliers first. On both my racks they popped right out pretty easily. Squeeze and pull straight out. Even if you want to keep them the stock size, definitely pull them to be sure they're clean.

My pilots are stock 42 with pods and 4-1. I'm at 500ft ASL.

So I can pull them straight out, nice! I'm going to change the mains three sizes up from the stock 90. I'll buy a size up for the pilots in case, but I'll try it stock first. I'll post my results once I get my motor back in the frame in the spring. Thanks

Plugs were black and sooty=rich; there was some red silt/sand type debris in the floats. Filter was clean, not rust, tank is clean; possibly some kind of cleaning media?
Anyhow, the bike runs great without  surging.
Thanks for all of your help. If it wasn't for the debris in the floats (for which I have no equipment or space to properly take apart and clean carbs with), I'm confident I would've got it to run right with all of your help
