Will a cb750F take other tanks?
« on: February 25, 2012, 11:33:04 AM »
Kind of an odd one.  Haven't had a bike in couple of years and have been looking around at sohc cb750's.  I'm sold on the classic looks of most of the line, except the F supersport line (no offense to any owners here).  Is there a way I could swap a tank from another cb, say a local '75 k I've seen sitting around, and have it look right?  I read the tank is a bit longer on the F, meaning there would be a gap to the stock seat - would the seats be interchangeable as well to correct that (even with the tail cowl)?

Been looking for one of these for a few months now, and with spring around the corner and the price hikes that come with that, all that's come up is a fairly local '75 F in decent shape at a great price.  Still not a good deal if I'm unhappy with the looks though..

Are you sure you can't live with the looks?

I just picked mine up for $375.00 and yours will look ever better than mine without the comstar wheels!

The best SOHC engine Honda made as well... (according to many).

The rear portions of the frame are longer on an F model.........so if your changing the tank, the seat will need to be swapped which may require moving the hinges and latch.......I'm not sure.....but the exchange will also affect the rear fender and tailight.

I would suggest you either wait for what you want................or buy the bargain priced F, clean it up and sell it when the K model you want shows up.  BTW.....good condition F tanks usually bring a premium over standard K tanks.

Smoking deal for $375!  Certainly not a bad looking bike (definitely 1000x better than my old yamaha xs), but the rest of the line just looks that much better to me.  It kills me people are paying like $800 left and right to put fiberglass cafe tanks and seats on them.

Thanks for the info scrambler.  Wasn't sure if it was just cosmetic changes or not - looks like more of a project than just swapping out some parts.  The F I'm looking at isn't THAT cheap (esp. compared to imago's buy at $375), but compared to the BS going on on ebay lately ($1000+ for non running motorcycles that need a ton of work), it wasn't bad.
