OEM-spec CB500/550 handlebars??
« on: June 20, 2006, 05:45:32 PM »
OK; I've actually found & used the Search button, but all I could come up with was a set of universal "Honda CB Special Touring" bars from OldBikeBarn and another set of "Classic Replica (Early Standards)" bars from CRC2...

I'd like a set just like the now-unobtainable OEM bars from the 70's...Knurled if possible; wire-holed would be very nice...

I know people are running them, but where do you get them??

What country style do you want? High as in US or low as in UK. 750 bars are almost identical and fit aok
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I'd go after a set of euro-spec 400F bars.  On my bike, I recently bought a set of drag bars, drilled them at home with a vice and a hand drill/dremel and ran the wiring through.  No big deal.

Most of that era (71-76) bars sold here in the US seem to look the same; 350, 500/550, 750; but going to the Fiche I find all kinds of different part numbers...they all seem to have the knurling and wiring slots, and in the GIF images look alike...there is even a seller on eBay that has a nice set of NOS unused bars which *look* the same, but with a different part number than a 500/550 (I'd take either if I could find a good set)...

For what it's worth, I am trying to put together a running 72 CB500 from one runner and two incomplete parts bikes; the parts bikes are CB550's...(a 74 and a 76)...the 72 CB500 is in the best shape (has the most pieces)...so that's what I'm concentrating on...

The bars on the 500 have about a 5 1/2" rise & pullback, and 30 1/2" width, with a 7" end rise...I like them...but they are russsssty...  :(

Anyways, thanks for the replies!  ;)

I replaced my low riders with an OEM set off e-bay for some ridiculously low price, $10 I think....Not sure if the 750's are the same dimensions though.

Thanks for the links! I was outbid on one of them; one has too high a rise; one seller didn't reply to question; and one was...something...I can't recall now...  :(

The 750 center seems wider than the 500/550 bars...I can't confirm, however...

Heh...There's a set of "sandcast" 750 bars, NOS, for BIN $92.99...I wonder how those wily Japanese cast the bars so round...  :D

...and you waded through 18 pages of new threads just to post those auctions??? Thank You!!!   ;)

I have Honda CB550 handlebars in my eBay Favorite Search...I wonder why that auction didn't show up???   :(

Edit: I just now [8:29am] got 4 notifications from eBay on stuff I want...rear fender, handlebars...and they're all for auctions that are already in progress!!! One has been running for 1 day 3 hours!!! The rest are all over 12 hours old!!! I was online until 1:00am last night, plus again at 7:00am this morning...doesn't eBay send out notifications when the auction posts???   >:(
