350F work today
« on: February 25, 2012, 06:57:15 PM »
I was on my way to a bike meet a few months ago when my bike started acting up.  I turned around and got back home with it and after a compression check and leakdown test, I knew I had an issue with the #4 exhaust valve.  Today I finally got to it.  Compression was no good on 2 and 3 now also, don't know whether that was a product of sitting all that time or not. Following is a few pictures.  The pistons have a good deal of build up on them, it scraped right off though.  There was a real crusty build up on #3 also.

I figured I'd clean it and lap the valves good and see what happened.  No matter how much I lapped, I always had a spot about half the distance around the #4 exhaust valve that wouldn't clean up.  I looked closely and could see it wobble slightly when I turned it.  I could even see a tiny gap between the seat and valve when I spun it.  The pictures show it but it's hard to see.  I had an extra head so I plucked an exhaust valve out it it.  I got 3 and 4 done today, I'll try to get 1 and 2 tomorrow.
