   The Voyager 1  space probe launched by NASA on September 5, 1977 to study the outer solar system and eventually interstellar space.  Operating for 34 years, 5 months and 25 days as of today (1 March 2012), the spacecraft receives routine commands and transmits data back to the Deep Space Network. It is the first probe to leave the solar system and is the farthest man-made object from Earth.  Taken  3.7 billion miles out in 1990  as Voyager passed the orbital boundaries of our Solar System.

That's got to be photoshopped (?)!

I looked at it on Photoshop down to the pixel level and can't find obvious fakery.  The reflected stars at that level are distorted from their opposites as you would expect in a reflection.  My thought on the kayak is it is sitting onshore, maybe elevated a bit on a rock or ledge hanging over the water.  No way could you hold a camera steady in a boat on the water.  You need a tripod to take this.  I am guessing the exposure would have to be under a minute.  Anything longer and the stars start to trail or if tracking, the background starts to blur.  If it is a fake it's a good one.  My version of Photoshop is at least 8 years old and the newer versions can do stuff mine can't even attempt.

Earthrise taken in 1968 from Apollo 8, first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon.  To me one of the most important and influential photos in history.

My dad was a student at M.I.T. when the space program was underway. He worked on the original flight simulator computer and claims to be the first one to have "crashed landed" on the moon. In his office there is a plaque thanking him for his participation in the space program.

FYI - JFK was going to put NASA at Kendall Square in Boston, they cleared 25 acres...then he died and Johnson moved the whole operation to Texas. "Boston, we have a problem"

I often look at my screen saver flipping thru the 4754 photos I have organized in 147 folders collected from APOD, Space.com, Sky and telescope, plus many others, and wonder why?

Now I know!

Look out babe thread!  ::)

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.
