replacing the swing arm zirk w/ metric: 6 or 7mm?
« on: February 25, 2012, 12:15:17 PM »
I'm gonna replace the OEM swing arm grease nipple.
Most people seem to use 1/4"
I have no use for a  1/4" tap but I do use metric - so I was gonna get a metric tap and zirk.
Should I get 6 or 7mm?
6 is a bit under 1/4" and 7 is a bit over... which would work best?

the easy route seems to be , will there be enough metal to tap after drilling the pilot hole for a 7mm tap?
intrigued by the wail...seduced by the scream.

Hey Grumpy.I just put new fittings in a pal's 750 swing arm last night.I used 6 mm.Slight drilling required first to get sizing prior to tapping.   Rock On

I have one at each end - early K style.

IIRC the later Ks had a single one in the middle - right?.

Standard tap size for grease fittings is 1/8"-27.

Good to know. I need to change the zirk on 2 of mine and all my taps are metric so i figured i would just use the 6mm zirks i have already.
