Do you have a set of 135 mains in your collection? If not, I would add them to the wish list..

I've got 130 & 135 mains.  Biggest air is the currently installed 185.

Might not hurt to pick up a pair of 200 airs, but I don't think I would bother with any larger than that.

You might also want to think about ordering a set of 50 idle jets, due to the high idle speed. When I screwed up and fitted 40F8s, I had to open the screws to over 1 1/2 turns, just to get the speed down to a reasonable RPM. Unfortunately, I was under a tight schedule at the time, as I had to hit the road to pick up Godzilla on last year's relay. At cruising speeds of 65-70 MPH, the bike had a lean surge and ran very hot, so I opened the screws even more, but it still was too lean at cruise. After putting almost 600 miles on the bike, I went back to the 45F9s, and was able to get the back to the desired range for the screws. BTW, no idea what F # you might need, but I would go for something in the middle?

I'll probably add some larger airs (190, 195) to the collection, along with smaller pump jets.  But think that the smaller mains (135, 130) I have on hand should be all I need there.   Adding some 50 idles to the list should cover all the bases.

Re the idle - Keep in mined I'm working with a race cam, so a low, smooth idle isn't in the cards.  I was suprised it idled as well as it did on the last day, given all the changes made the night before.  If there had been a screw driver handy (mock grid ::)) I probably could have got it down some.  I'll go back to 'square 1' now, and do a complete fresh setup; starting with makeing sure the throttle plates are closed properly, then doing the idle screws.....

Short video clip my paddock neighbour Wayne shot at turn 2. 8)   Basically my 8 laps of the final through turn 2.  The distance I'm behind the pack, is what I lost getting blocked on the start.  At the end there's the comment about a rig flipping.  It's at the bottom of the hill.  He went off into the grass, and on trying to come back on hooked the front wheel on the curb, and flipped.  Photos below.

VRRA 2012 Sidecar Neighbours

The flip :o :o.....everyone walked away, however the rig was a little worse for wear ::)....

Thanks for the footage Brian.
The old girl seems to circulate very well, good job.
All up it,s a very impressive effort for your first season.
Do you have much of the season left to run?
Are you still planning on making a start on the Honda project?

Cheers,
Brain

Thanks for the comp Brian.  New tires would have helped the lap times, along with the carb being slightly better sorted.  I'm happy with our efforts so far, and know where there's room for improvement.

There's still one race left in the club series, but not sure if my passenger can make it.  We also talked about doing 'Barber', funding permitting.

I got the Fiddeman/Honda project out of the boxes (literally), and will post a photo.  It's this winter's project to keep me off the streets. ;D ;D  The red/orange bike in the video (running 5th??) was just offered for sale.  It was last years championship winner.  Paul & Marie having been racing for 14+ years (most championship winning 8)), and have decided to retire.

A couple of pictures of this winter's project for Bear ;) - the Fiddeman Honda.

Boxes in the background are what all the parts came in. ::)

Not sure why the fairing was cut, but it will probably be rejoined.  The big cutout will be made smaller to better duct an oil cooler.  The fuel tank will get a polish after being leak tested.  A dry sump tank will be added somewhere near the current battery position.

Rim on the left is rear, right is front, there is a matching chair wheel in pieces.  Hub on left is rear, right is front with massive vented disk, and Lockheed caliper.  Looks like someone started to convert it two twin front disks

Lots of missing, used up pieces.  Going to take a lot of research just to figure out how it should have looked when together:(

Haven't updated this for awhile, so here's the latest news.  The P2 is going to be the VRRA's sidecar rep at the Toronto Bike Show in early December.  Time to give it a little polish.  Good thing I've finished updating the shifter, the clutch will have to wait until after the show.  It will also be getting a new cam with a bit more lift for next season.

ITG are continuing their sponsorship support next year. Thanks to Andy, they are supplying a new filter along with these stacks for next season.  Should have the filter in time for the show, and will post a picture when it arrives.

The other news is that AHRMA are / have changed the P3 engine rules to 4 stroke 750 to 1300cc, any configuration.  So that means the Fiddaman will be getting an SOHC with my MR 1060 billet kit. 8) ;D  Going to have to think this one through a bit, while I work on restoring the chassis.  It opens the door to some interesting possibilities, like a 900 crank.

Here's the simplified version Sam, should be as clear as mud. ;D ;D ;D ;D

The P2 class (my bike) is restricted to twins (max 750cc 4 stroke / 500cc 2 stroke), manufactured up to the end of 72; wheels 15" or greater, max 5" tread.  The XS qualifies as a continuation of the TX650.  The best motor for the class is the BMW because of it's low CG.  It's drawback is the shaft drive, and expensive parts.

The P3 class is for short bikes with smaller then 15" wheels (eg 13" or 10" like Bear's Windle), and wider than 5" tread.  The Fiddaman uses 7 & 8 x 13 slicks.  The engine has to be a 4 stroke, production based, available up to December 31 / 82.   It use to be the engine had to have an original displacement of less than 900cc's.  The SOHC CB750, DOHC CB750F, Triumph Trident, and Kawi 750 were all eligible engines, and you could bore/stroke them to the class max of 900cc's (+5% over bore).  The CB900F (901), and Kawi Z1 (906) were not allowed because their original cc's exceeded 900, not including the over bore.  The CB900F is now eligible, along with the Kawi, so is the CBX six. :) ;D   As awesome as the six would sound, it's probably a poor choice because of it's width, weight, and cost for racing parts.  While probably not the 'best choice', I've got x2 SOHC 750 engines, and an MR 1060 kit to work with, so that's what I'll use.  Being a dry sump has both oiling, and weight distribution advantages as well.  Using a 900 crank adds stroke, and brings along the Hy-vo primary chain, both good.  As I said, I'm going to have to think & plan this out while I restore the chassis.

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

It'll be 2014 before it sees the track Syscrush.  Want to do some USA races with the P2 this coming season.  So the racing budget has priority over the rebuild. ;)  Once I get started on the Fiddaman, I'll start a new thread.

Brian ,
when it comes to strokers and chairs I'm sure youll touch base with Bear  Dont hold it against him just cos he stutters with his threads and says he has to discuss things with his mechanic, the boy is playing mr modest. Ol bear has built and wrecked more strokers than possibly the forum put together. Just promise him a beer and he'll open up and if he still holds out,  tell him he looks skinny in his leathers ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks TG, it has been an eventful first season, and one I thoroughly enjoyed.  Well, except the crash. ::)

The sidecar people are a very close bunch, always willing to lend a hand, parts, whatever, to get a fellow competitor back out.  New tires and some tweeks to the engine, and chassis should move us up the grid next year.

One beer and I'm not just anybody's.
This sort of info's got be worth at least two. ;D
I've only just recently been corelating all my tremendously technical notes for Alex.(All written on the back of parts boxes)
We are just about to reassemble our A motor, this will be ver. 5.66 I think.
So I will endeavor to provide some pretty colored pix's as well. :)

OK Bear, so if I spring for 3 beers, does that mean I get access to those highly coveted technical notes?? ;D
Hoping that would allow me to jump straight to V6.0 ;)

Yep, Eastern Creek's the go.
We have one and a half weeks left and the bike's still not a pretty site.(see pic below)
Ev's starting to get a little edgy, but I've got to tell you I'm pretty excited about it all.
I have no illusions about being competitive but it will be great to be back on the bike.
You are now on the mail out list with Alex.
