Great to see you again at the track, thanks for posting the clip.  If YouTube ever finishes processing my video of the Final, I'll post it up.  Had to split it into 2 parts, as it was 17min, and they only allow 15. :(

On board video of sidecar racing is very cool! Well done Brian. It would be neat to have a rearview camera showing what the driver and passenger go through during the race. Not sure there would be enough room to mount a cam for that though.

I see you're tied for 3rd...should be a great battle at the Quebec GP! See ya there.

Thanks Tim, thought about mounting the rear camera facing forward, to see what kind of shot that gives.  However I think the passenger would be blocking it most of the time.

Yeah 3rd in the points is nice, but not sure about Quebec though.  Hurt the engine at Mosport, and no spare.  Rather have a complete engine to refresh this winter; than a blown one that needs major parts replacement.

Not sure I understand how the engine got "squeeked". Over rev, clearances too tight, or over lean?

Most likely rev's, although it was running a touch toward lean at the end of the back straight, after prolonged WOT.  Ran 17/34, and could have used 17/33, but don't have a 33 (will next year!).  Also I'm running a shorter than stock 5th, so that also didn't help on the back straight.  Did a leak down test this afternoon, results were not good.  Left side was 90 over 100 (rings), which I could live with.  However, right side was 60 / 100 leaking from exhaust (valve). :(

Thanks for posting the video Brian, I enjoyed watching.
Good result well done.
Bad luck about the leak down, sounds like you've got some work to do.

Cheers,
Brian

Sorry to read about the leak down test results. Didn't you just rebuild the motor between seasons? Really sucks to be doing it again.  Cuts into the operating budget something fierce. Not to mention time involved in doing it...
Best of luck on the teardown and rebuild.

+1 on the one handed muscling it around the track, wonder if Hopper was wondering why your lines were wider...

Glad everyone is/has enjoyed the video.

It's a great track Brian, you'd have a blast on that Windle. ;D  Also a big thanks for the advice on getting these 3 wheel things to handle (relatively speaking ;))  If it hadn't been working so well, I never would have been able to keep hitting my marks, and finished the race.

As for the engine, that's racing.  I knew at the 1st race it was likely a hand grenade, fast but fragile.  Choose to 'pull the pin', and wring it's neck at Mosport.  Came within .17 of paying off, no complaints.  There's 2 seasons on the bottom end, so it had to come apart anyway.

Went out to watch the SRA boys (& girls) @ Shannonville with their F1's & F2's.  Pete Essaff was there with his Ireson F2.  His passenger wasn't feeling well, so on Sunday morning I got to passenger in the 1st two practice sessions.  Did about 10 laps in total.8)  Compared to my P2, the acceleration & braking on it was brutal .  I've got bruises in a number of places.  Think I'll stick to driving. ;)

Almost there Sam. ;)  Biggest issue was the Ireson has a postage stamp for a passenger platform, and the hand holds didn't fit me well going right.  There's another round coming up later this month, maybe I can get a session on one of the F1's.  Their platforms look huge in comparison. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Taken quite a while but the shop is just about finished.  Electrician comes Saturday to hook up the wiring to the panel, and install some 220 lines for the compressor.  Also have some vapour barrier left to do.

Whew I thought I'd get a better shot than that!

Hey what's the deal at Mosport? (new post VRRA forum) I've had me head in the sand, please tell me this is a separate track completely?

Yeah, this is the new 2nd track.  It replaces the old oval (gone now), and use some(?) of the old 'training' track.  The RDT back straight is where I blew up a couple of trannys in my Super 7 running Solo 1's. ::)

It's were the VRRA Festival may get shuffled too, unless Mosport can make real money by having us on the GP track. :(  Hard to tell from the picture's how motorcycle / sidecar friendly it may be.

Fifty feet to concrete is not motorcycle friendly no matter how many wheels you have.

Are you going to the AGM, it might be a topic for "new business"

Those were my thoughts re safety, not nearly enough runoff.  Alternate tracks should be a topic, so this fits.  If not, I'll post it as a suggested 'new business' topic on the forum.

Yes will be at the AGM, room booked.  Likely going to also go to the SRA AGM the week before as it's in Gananogue.  Will be an 'interested observer'.

Finally got a chance to start stripping the engine down today.  1st issue was why the alt connector showed signs of over heating.

now I know :o

As for the exhaust valve issue that showed up in the leak down test.  Hard to see but the edge of the right valve is sitting up slightly, not good.  Also showing signs that the head gasket was going on the exhaust side.

Moved both pistons to the top of the bores, also not good news.  Seems both exhaust valves hit their pistons.  Seems like the pocket isn't positioned quite right.

If we could make those heads out of clear epoxy...................I do a dry fit and turn the motor slowly with a gear-reduction electric motor by belt drive to the crank.  If all goes well at super slow-mo..........we turn up the speed a bit and check oil flow.

Your doing very well and I like the way your carefully building power and reliability.

We allways make a point of of cutting our own valve pockets for that very reason Brian.
It's not a big job and well worth the effort.

Cheers,

To say I'm not impressed with the Wisco pistons would be an understatement Bear.  Two sets in one season. :(  I've always been a chassis guy; get it handling 1st, the real speed is made in the corners.  Guess it's time I started building my own engines too.
